This is a barn find everyone knew about, about three years ago Wink Hinkley of Grand Gorge New York was inducted in the Central New York Stock Car Hall of Fame. We all knew he still had his first car which was a 56 Ford a former Bill Roese car. The Sunday before the Hall of fame a small group who had been involved in the car helped to dig it out. Over the last three years my cousin Edward Docskalik got the car running again. The car was re bodied at some point but is still a 56 Ford chassis. Last night was the first time on the track at Fonda in 40 years! The first race red primer with shoe polish numbers
We think the 21 Jerry Wisnowski(sp?) is the car after being raced by Bill Roese (28) but before Wink Hinkley.
Outstanding! The search and rescue shirt is definitely appropriate. Used to go to Fonda with my Dad, late 50's - early 60's. Are you running with the Mohawk Valley group?
Hey Robert Back in the mid 1970's I was in the stands every single Saturday night...watching Wink Hinkley...Dick Schoonover...Bill Reose...Bill Brooking...Miles Neal...Tommy Czban....Jack Cottrell...gosh the list goes on and on...love that era...glad you guys are saving it... MikeC
Mohawk Valley Vintage Club will be back at Fonda on June 22 Dad worked with Bill Roese, Wink Hinkley, Jack Miller, and Earl Mewhorter Dad Built this chassis which became Earl Mewhorter's Camaro
MVVDMS 1st place, $75.00 along with hat, yearbook, 50th year pin, 2019 NYSSCA SAFETY AWARD WINNER in the VINTAGE ANTIQUE CLASS....ED DOCSKALIK #27
Hey Robert, did you ever go to Ransomeville NY track or make it to Ontario Canada to Humberston Speedway or Merrittville Speedway ?
No, I grew up at Fonda in the Late 80's My first race was in the pits Hartville Darlington S.C. three mounts old! I have been to Lebanon Valley, Malta after it was dirt. I went to Afton instead of going to my prom. I have also been to Pen-Can in P.A. Shangra-La and Shangra-La II As well as several Winston Cup races, Rockingham, Pocono, Watkins-Glen, Darlington. Bobby Alison signed his hat and gave it to me after he won the Southern 500 I was two years old! I was there when Bill Elliot when the Million dollar bonus as well.
I love it..a 66-67 Fairlane body on a 56 chassis.. had to say something about strength of old steel. A lot was allowed at dirt tracks now and then..
Very cool . We used to go to Lancaster and Holland Speedway a lot . Cup wise , went to a lot of Winston Cup races. Charlotte, Richmond (local), Martinsville and Daytona. Mark Martin, Darrell Waltrip and Bill Elliott used to come up to Cayuga, Ontario Speedway and run the big asphalt late model races.
The car again last night, I grabed extra clothes and my camera. Then left the camera on the kitchen table. Good news-The car count for the vintage cars was up. Bad news-The car didn't do as well this time, four place. Had a bad push got in the wall during warm-ups. No damage to the car. A few new doughnuts on the very end of the quarter panel during the feature. Three vintage cars were racing hard for the win on the last lap. One got loose coming out of four to take the checkers spun and clipped the outside wall just with the left before the flag stand. Broke the rear spring and a radius rod. (Split Ford rear wishbone) no body damage it is a rear 40 Ford Tudor.
We have confirmed this car was Jerry Wisnowski's 21. It was confirmed by Bill's Roese's son John as well as Wink Hinkley himself.
The Fonda Hall Of Fame was good. The races got rained out, however I did get some detail photos of the car. Grand National style braced 9" Ford rear Adjustable Shackles Modified upper A frame and jack bolt Late 50's Buick backing plates and drums Winfield Hinkley smoked like a chimney. When we dug the car out it was full of Lucky Strike packages they covered the floor of the garage where the car had been parked for forty years!
Bill Roese the original builder driver (as a 56 Ford) made some laps in the car last Sunday 09-22-19 at the Mid-State speedway
Bill wanted to drive his son John's clone of Bill's second 56 Ford, however it has a modern 3 disc clutch and Bill couldn't push the pedal in. Bill is 80 years old. The original car in the early 70's
