I forgot too mention that the original wire wheels on the car in the show pics were handmade

  2. Oh wow! That’s neat. Where did they end up?

I’m not really a fan of wires myself but they work really well on that for the European vibe it has (had.)

The full caps would be just as cool?

Is it my cup of tea? No, but look at the workmanship and innovation for the time! And the fact that it survived basicly intact ! And I love the Harley taillights. Larry

Just kidding...and I can't wait to see the dramatic transformation begin...;)

  9. A plus for Chrysler wires is you can use early ford caps if you want.

This photo is from the 80’s so the custom hadn’t been updated since then

And it looks like Bill Smith’s roadster won over a well known
    T bucket
    In it’s division

Plus with the new pictures I found out that the original color was a light turquoise color and the second color I found a paint code on
    Sunset orchid

Are you thinking about going with the light blue? I think that would really look sharp.

@Austinrod I know you have ordered true wire wheels. Just for the sake of what was the wires were described as custom made...I was at a cruise yesterday and there was a sharp Early 60s T-Bird sporting wire caps...I think......These were available in 58 I suspect and that would fall in line with the shows that they were seen on Your Custom and being it had caps prior a quick pop off and on may have been what actually transpired.

Custom made wires may have meant just a swap out of the logo in the center...

Now you did talk extensively with the original owner so perhaps that information was discussed and mentioned here and I apologize if I missed it.

Probably by Don Hentzell who owned Western Wheel and Rim in Oakland back then. One of, if not the first, to do chrome, reverse rims. Story is he came up with the idea for Ed Bosio's 1956, AMBR, winner.

I painted my chopped '36 three window ORCHID in '57. Hordes of the unwashed called it 'pink'. Orchid is closer to lavender than 'pink', but the 'tennis shoe M.F.s have to have something to say...even back then. (Orchid was VERY 'hot rod hep', for cars.
Shirts were pink & black. (and some '55 Plymouths!)

Wheels in # 123 look to be 'lip-laced', a specialty of Gary McCleon when he was lacing up wire wheels in the early '70s.
Gary and son Jimmy run Rally Sport wheel in Fresno, would be smart to contact him for some insight...Gary was there then, his son is here on the HAMB, as '@wheelkid'.
    These fellows are tops.
