I put some leftover parts together for a wall display in my garage a while back. Some people suggested I put some lights in it, so, the second photo is the completed project.

    Hello,

Just last week, my wife said that she would like to go camping. What? Camping? (In what car or vehicle?) Where? We are not spring chickens, anymore…! She said that when we owned the 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery, we had plans to go camping. But, we took the 65 El Camino down to Baja for a week of surfing and yes, beachfront camping. The last two days we stayed at the Bahia Hotel Resort to top off the week of salt air beach front camping.

But, if we had taken the sedan delivery, it would have provided overhead shelter and warmth. Our El Camino had a better view of the zillion stars in the dark sky. That was well worth it to view and efforts to keep warm!!! As a teen, I had slept in my older 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery with the Flathead motor. It was toss the sleeping bag in the back, roll over and sleep. Teenagers just don’t care much about space or comfort, but usually pass out from exhaustion without even knowing why.

These days, “Glamping” seems more like what she has in mind. So, with that in mind, we have discovered plenty of places with nice Airstream Trailers for a week’s vacation. There was a perfect one located in the Joshua Tree desert area, but it was not small dog friendly. So, the search is on to find one with all parameters for us.

That idea got me thinking… what if we had a larger form of accommodation in an old hot rod panel truck? At one time in the twenties, we did think of buying a V8 van with all of the creature comforts we would build inside, similar to our old custom made surf vans.

But, being a Forties Ford type of old hot rodder, I thought it would be cool to have a larger Ford Panel Truck with all of the creature comforts in the back. Especially a folding set of coil spring mattresses like the ones in custom made sailboats.

I am sure that would get the seal of approval of my picky wife and small dog. ( SBC +A/C of course)

  14. A disclaimer Lol:rolleyes: ,on this weeks photo. { maybe a snap shot?} But to me it's one of the best photos I've ever taken and, is my new screen saver. I was at the park and my 2 year old grandson decided to sit in my rear wheel.:) So the title { Future HAMB'er} . Here's a old Junkyard sketch, from one of my old sketch pads. Thanks Ron.... 2319.jpg

  17. sThank you Stogy, good eye! I was gonna let it ride until Larr popped in. Sololobo has not only been a big supporter of the FAS but of me personally. I am grateful to know him and for every change I get to hang out with him.

  18. Ed, and JNAKI, I thought many times of building a cool old style HAMB camper. JNAKI in the 70s I also had an El camino for my HVAC work truck. The wife and I would take it camping, and sleep under the stars also. { Oh to be young again}! Ed, I built an old camper, kinda like the one that you pictured. I used the rear half of a 36 Dodge delivery. I've posted photos of it on the HAMB in the past. So here's a couple of a model I built of it. Also I've slept in my Hot Rods a lot over the years and, I still do. Wouldn't it be cool to pull onto a camp ground in this Deco stlyed camper. Ron...[/ATTACH] 2258.jpg 2021.jpg 2257.jpg
