Congratulation s on your new car,57-59 was a time of excess and elegance in the show car world.If someone see's a similarity with a MG it's because maybe they were very desirable back then.I see styling q's from different makes in a lot of early hot rods.Look at the cars Mole coach builders puts out.Not every one is a home run in my book ,but I can still appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into one of those cars.Good luck with your restoration. I've had guys say they love the pines trim on my 36 and others ask when I'm going to take it off.It's still on there because I respect the person that put it on and honor the history that goes along with the car.

I think the comparison Custom posted is more reminiscent of the early 50s MGs and I do recall an similar MG in Dry Lakes Footage...They were in the mix that's for sure...not to mention the roots of the people building...

I don't think it will ever go down as one of my favorites as far as hot rods from that era go but I am glad that he didn't make wholesale body mods later to keep up with street rod trends though the years.
Wheels (including steering) tires and a few other cosmetic items like figuring out the nerf bars would be first on my list. The engine and trans swap could come later during a full update after they were found and redone. On the other hand since the original builder installed the engine it isn't totally terrible and maybe a set of valve covers and a few trinkets might take away from the "that's not right" look a bit.

 

The car had really great proportions in this guise. The super-wide whitewalls just barely inside the fender openings gave it a very muscular look. The funky bumpers, top and wire wheels took away from the excellence of line in my opinion. It was a really pretty car gone bad with too much needless bling. Hopefully you'll return it to this iteration...without the bumpers. And repaint it back to the original pink. Nice car.

 

I have been searching here's an American Connection to MG but it's not Dry Lakes...
This is actually the pic that led me to think Dry Lakes...I was mistaken...But this is America and Styling influences could have still stemmed from exposure no matter were the vehicles were put through the paces...This Lady Suzy Dietrich was really into the Car Scene and was quite the competitor.

MG did have connections to Bonneville it seems post WWll an even had a streamliner...

those centerlines will be cool for a traditional 80s build 20 years from now

 

Any of them will give the general look but I'd go with number 2.
The wheels in these photos appear to have a large 3 bladed spinner.

With the spokes attaching at the bead I'd say the wires are MoPar, probably Plymouth, Dodge or DeSoto, but not Chrysler. I still like the painted steel wheels with the Olds spinners the best, though. I'm just not into bling on this car.

 

I don't think those are Skylark wires. On the Skylarks the lugnuts are exposed and the center is smaller (outer area where the spinner attaches).
