Responded to a local ad for 1940 Ford front and rear axles. When I got there, I got talking to the guy selling and he said he was upgrading his truck and I asked if he had anything else.....he says yes, that it was a real old build and had a '59 283 and Ford 3 speed. So I ended up with these goodies too, along with the toploader 3spd and axles. Axles had basically new brakes in them....

Yes , we have a constant flow of his buddies coming over to check out the progress & learn too & we let join in on the fun. They’ll remember what they learn because they want too. I sincerely do appreciate the safety concern, the Pic I took was before we fired up the steam cleaner , next I placed old rims ,2 floor jacks & monster jack stand under the frame for backup before we laid on a foam mat staying outside but definitely not under it so if it moved it’d still be supported. Plus the steam cleaner bouncing hot crud in ones face stings. Sadly I’ve lost a fellow racer pal not long ago & had two car buddies suffer life altering injuries from jack stands that rolled forward thus pinning them under their hot rods. Jack stands scare me too. I grew up in a garage & machine shop & never take safety for granted. Now that it’s clean up on the lift it’ll go! Flux

  6. Hole sawed out a slug of nylon wear shoe, "turned" it on a drill press, inserted a 10-32 tapped brass tube, set screws, and a flattened brass screw to be a horn contact on the '35. Worked out good. '40 column with a smoothed bowl hooked to a 525 box, Jeep brush on a homemade copper shaft contact.

Sorry guys, I'm not savvy enough to load the video. I think I'm getting a different version of it this afternoon and maybe I'll be able to post it.

I don't have clue how to do that, remember I smashed my last laptop because I couldn't cut & paste. This one has been agreeable to a point, best not test it doing links and all.
Maybe I can get the person who took the video to post it up.

Mocked up 2 blowers to go double whammy on the Studebaker and learned that it’s not for me. I had high hopes too....

Today I made a stand for painting doors.

Man, those old trampoline frames you see sitting out on the curb for free come in handy. Only cost was the swim noodles and chain. $10 investment. Need to make another. I dont know how many tables and racks I've made from those things... 20190528_185131.jpg

Got one of the Studebakers ,the only one that had an engine in it, running. It had been sitting for several years , out side in the weather, it had already been converted to 12v so I charged up the battery and checked the fluids , had to replace one peice of rubber fuel line and blow out the rest put some gas down the carb , turned the key , nothing , ignition switch was broken replaced that ,again put gas down the carb turned the key and it fired sputtered then died did it again it fired blowing alot of smoke out the exhaust from what I put down the cylinders to crank it first with the plugs out, then it cleared out and idled down against the auto choke then down to its final notch and purred with 40# oil pressure even with the rotten ,stinky old gas that was in it ..
My other Studebaker was the same way when I got it , it had been sitting for 19 to 20 years out side , I bought it from a family that was having a estate sale in 2 weeks I got the car home changed the fluids converted it to 12v cleaned the point's and plugs blew out the lines cranked it over 3rd hit it fired up and samething idled down and ran great even drove it back up to the farm on the day of the sale and let the family members look it it over took some for rides ,it was there dads car , and I drove it for six years , first year new water pump, and hoses , third year new plugs and a accelerator pump ,points and wires now it down and getting go fast goodies and suspension...but what is it with the old cars ? They can sit for along time and with a little cleaning usually start up and function, a friend of mine parked his 92 Chevy pu for 6 months and went to get it on the road again and the distributor had to be replaced it had all corroded up same with the throttle body most of the switches didn't work, I realize the newer stuff has more electronics but still every thing else just rots away..oh the clutch is stuck on the Stude so that's today's fix and then the drive.
Notice the color of the gas on the bowl and it's running on that..I am draining it today and putting in fresh crap new gas, probably won't run now.. 20190517_191422.jpeg 20190527_185430.jpeg 20190527_185402.jpeg

It was really cool to finally see it and I wanted to try to replicate that model kit, but it’s just no good. With a couple small v-series blowers, the proportions might be ok but I’m not going that far. A friend stopped over with a showerhead Enderle after work and it looked way better with a single blower.

  26. Surprised when I got to the shop to find someone changed their mind and had the '33 frame powder coated red. Axle looked good in red, too, Mike said he spent 4 hours picking the baked on tape off the chrome, tho. Welded the centering rings in my backing plates, filled the extra holes too; but didn't get in the picture.
