30 years ago I worked in an engine building shop. When we put the heads on engines we always sprayed the gaskets with metallic silver Krylon paint. Is that the way everyone does it nowadays? I'm getting ready to put the heads on my 324 Olds build this weekend.
Today's modern gaskets may not need that spray paint. However, I still use the copper coat gasket spray. Here's a site that discusses this topic based on the type of gasket being used. http://www.headgasketpro.com/head-gasket-repair/head-gasket-copper-spray/
Spray copper coat has always worked well, but I might be inclined to follow Felpro's (or whoever's) instructions. Gasket and sealing technology has come a long way over the years. While this may be due mostly to newer technology in today's engines, some newer materials and procedures may well translate to the older engines we are working with.
My old man would spray paint used head gaskets, but he went thru the depression on a farm. Cash money was slim and none. Sent from my LG-TP450 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
it depends on the gasket. If it's a metal clad gasket, then spray it with some type of sealer/copper coat/aluminum paint. But if it's a composition gasket with something besides metal contacting the block and head, don't add the coating.
