A couple of years ago I built some rear fenders for my COE, to cover the outside Dual tires. It was a fair amount of work to get them finished to the point of the first picture. Over the last 2 days I finally got around to getting them to the mounting stage. Now just some holes to drill, and trim and shape the ends to suit. Oh...man , Black_Sheep , I'm so sorry , my condolences go out to you . I got to say you are a strong man, I am so afraid of that day, when ever it comes for my mother I know it's part of life ,but it is the part that is going to be my greatest test of myself...my mother is not only my mother she is also my friend and the one that has been there for me whenever life has dealt me a bad hand, being car crashes, being hospitalized for severe burns, relationship issues, financial issues, taking a turn down bad roads expermenting, hell doing drugs, which I don't do anymore, and the one time ,and last, that I spent two days in jail , I was afraid to call her with my one phone call so I called a friend's mom and she called mine, ended up I had nothing to be afraid of. Ok so I love my mom and she has always been there for me and when ever she needs help with anything ,which is not very often, I do what I can to help. She just turned 77 a few days ago ,works in the yard ,volunteers every Friday at the courthouse, deals with my dad,and still worries about everyone else except herself , she says it's just being a mother.
I'm sorry for rambling on and I'm sorry for your loss, I just hope that I can be as strong as my mother has been for me ,and as you are being for your mother.
I know I will be there for her when that day comes, the question for myself that bothers me, is how I handle it mentally and emotionally afterwards.

One thing that is tougher than losing your parents or a sibling, is if you lose one of your children! Fortunately I haen't had that experience and pray that I never do.

  7. OK....not today, but a couple of days ago. I actually started to clean out my shop! REALLY! It has only taken me 26 years, but it IS going to happen. I need to get BOTH cars inside AND make room to work on them. I will be continuing the cleaning today and until it is sorted. Picture 10747.jpg post-37352-143139069636.jpg

After many attempts to get an old Buddha 'H' engine to run I found another old Stromberg M2 carb and rebuilt it, the original M2 was missing parts and somebody tried to machine replacements but the float mechanism didn't work and fuel would run out the carb. I found and rebuilt this one over the winter, polished it and set it aside for warmer weather. Well that day arrived last weekend, I pulled the original carb off and went to install the rebuilt one when I realized the throttle & choke shafts worked opposite of the original. I brought both carbs back to the shop to swap parts around, I would continue to use the orginal carb but replace the float and metering devices with the ones from the other carb and tested the float mechanism to 3psi. I went back on Saturday and reinstalled the carburetor and found that after a good period of time the leak returned - we got the engine to run but briefly. This is a 100year old engine, 4cyl with about 312ci with maybe 20hp driving a Nash Quad 2ton truck with 4whell drive, 4wheel steering - a WorldWar 1 military truck. I took the carb back off and brought it back to the shop and took it all back apart - the machining in it is incredible, I found a hairline crack in the nut holding the inlet fitting, I started to replace it with the nut from the spare carb but it had the same crack, it was a brass nut so I soldered it back together, cleaned the lead out of the threads (big nut, 15/16ths socket) and put the carb back together, I tested it to 3psi and played with the float level adjuster to understand it better but let the pressure stay on it for 1/2hr. This morning I went back to the truck, put he carb on and reconnected everything. It has primer cups that you fill with a small amount of gas, then crack the handle and the gas drops into the cylinder, I primed the motor and spun it over 2 times on the crank, made sure the timing was retarded, gave it a little throttle, set the choke about 1/2 and pulled up on the handcrank handle and she lit off like a brand new Lexus! I opened the choke and left the timing retarded then lowered the RPM to probably 150 or less and she sat there idling like it was wondering what the fuss was all about.
The owner made a video, I'll have him send me a copy. It was quite a moment. This was the first time the owner ever heard it run.
I need to check a few more things on it and plan to go back next Sunday and we'll try to actually drive the thing. Maybe we'll do a thread on it. It really is incredible.

Changed the front brake pads for some Hawk replacements. I run their pads on my DD and have been happy with them there.

  17. Dad and I started to assemble the 1948 Farmall Cub that we bought at auction last November. I managed to shock the piss out of my self installing the freshly rebuilt magneto. Haven’t done that in a while. My finger still hurts. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

That looks very nice, I have a 1950 cub I just use it for dragging stuff around the yard ,when I first got it it had a big crack in the lower tank, I fixed it by the drill ,tap, screw, method after finding the ends of the crack, then I built a new grill, grill side panels, and headlight stands, the day the picture was taken the seat stand broke off it's fixed now. The clutch is bad at the moment and besides the clutch I need to replace the shift tower assembly and one of the sliders in the trans, plan is to once I gather the parts is to tear if down for the clutch repair then paint it all as if gets reassembled. Hope you post some pictures when its finished. 20160103_103603.jpeg 20190527_172623.jpeg

Wasn't so much about what I did today, was about what my boy did....taught him how to prep for paint, tape off, setup the paint gun and mix paint (etc.).....today. Then he got to spray it, too. Did a great job, his response was.....damn, spraying is the easy part.... IMG_20190527_192818_928.jpg

Spent the day with my 15 year old gear head, degreasing , steam cleaning, flushing out body drains & pressure washing sludge off a California built 66 c10, that we rescued from a 32 year nap it took , luckily under a barn lean to , brought home a couple months ago. So he can drive it to school , taking the pressure off us to hurriedly finish his 65 c10 project. you know a while back he said “Dad , we have two of everything we’re fixing”..... hmmmmm . It’s a horrible affliction as a local racer once told me, how true but fun. Flux

I'm all for youth involvement...I talked to a group of 5 or so High School Kids who commented positively about the Hotrod at a Coffee Stop educated them a bit about it...Heck if they are interested, talking to them may direct them back to the Time even I was to young to experience...They learned a bit and knew it had a Chevy engine so they were into cars but at 2001 as a birth date this Old Jalopy is really quite foreign to them.

OKAY @flux capacitor...Your son or Nephew I take it...I have a major concern about the blocks...There's been too many stories and really bad ones at that about them as Jackstands...

Please try and remedy that...;)...You guys and your southern sheet metal...Dayuum

What did I do today? Apart from spreading Vintage Hotrod Gospel...I went for a drive in the Ole Hotrod to an appointment and then Civilly Rumbled through some vintage Neighborhoods in a Small Civil War Town (Perth, Ontario)...It was about 65° calm and sunny...It ran like a dream...It's great to be out and about again...
