Hi Hamb folks... So I am collecting pieces and parts for a Jalopy rebuild...the old heap had two separate hanging pedals that were sorta hanging off the firewall and the dashboard too (literally 2 nuts holding the whole thing on)....I believe from what I can tell this old heap was probably out running circles at local oval track in the late 1950's to the early 1960's....the famous John Milner '32 Ford was from that same era... So does anybody on here know what those pedals on the coupe and the master cylinder were from? Master cylinder pic above... Hanging pedals shown here... This is the era I am trying to replicate... Any insight would be very appreciated. MikeC
Johnny at "Reno Rod Shop" sells reproduction Ansen pedal assemblies and parts, you can call him at (405) 813-1932.
Lots of copy’s of the ansen pedals and some don’t even look close . Real ones pop up on here or ebay now and then...
Speedway, when all else fails or when hunting just use Google search. Part # 91631992 Universal Fit Firewall Mount Clutch/Brake Pedal Assembly $129.99 (4) Universal Fit, 15.5" Overall Height, 4.5625"
I have a couple sets of originals hanging around out in the shed, I think one set of Moon pedals and a set of Ansens. I should dig them out for reference pictures. Someone cut my ‘32 firewall for a set, then patched up the big holes but left the small holes. I’m not sure what I’m doing for a drivetrain on the Deuce yet so I’m leaving the options open for now.
Ansen made several types of pedals Brake and clutch that used the Chevy truck master Single brake pedal These are Ansens I found at Rhinebeck these use 39-48 Ford master cylinders I repaired the brake pedal My style N.O.S. This style is what my dad ran on this Fonda Late Model
I'd use 60-62 Chevy pickup pedals and firewall & dash brace on your 40 Ford for 2 reasons. One is that Ansen pedals require you to swap master cylinder guts from clutch bore to brake bore, because Chevy masters have the brake bore on the driver side. Ansen is opposite. But I would think the bends of the Chevy pedals might be a better location for a 40 because the firewall is further forward from the dash and seat location . The Ansens might end up too far forward on a 40? If you do buy 60-62 setup, make sure the seller includes both twin cylinder pushrods. Also, some sellers might try to sell you 63-66 truck setup, but those wont work with the 60-62 master, but they do look similar as far as pedal shape and the firewall/dash brace they hang from.
This what you need? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...p-w-2-master-cylinders.1149583/#post-13096583 Phil
RJ's Speedshop in Kansas City makes a nice Ansen style pedal assembly. It's a little heavier than the original.
I am using the Advance Adapters swing pedal kit in two of my Model A projects. It's heavy and well engineered with very pleasing pedal arm shapes. The Advance Adapters kit also has the safety "bumps" on the top to prevent accidental dislodging of the pushrods. Uses common Chevy pickup dual master cylinder with the guts reversed side to side. Makes a very high quality installation. https://www.advanceadapters.com/products/716117--dual-swing-pedal-kit/
