Indy is about as interesting to me as pro Football. they could cancel them both and I would not even notice.

Yep, the Spanish designed (Ilmor) Chevy in an Italian Dalarra chassis with (Japanese owned) Firestone (Bridgestone) tires driven by a Frenchman won. Makes me proud to be an American.

The last win by an American chassis and engine was by AJ Foyt in 1977. Remember that The Cosworth Engine. like the Chevy was not an American design, and the "American" Penske cars were designed and constructed in England. I believe tht the G Force chassis were British. The Wildcat and Gslmer were American chassis powered by a British Cosworth.

Was rooting for Rossi, the Honda is more American than the Chevy BTW

I’m probably in the minority here but I just enjoy good racing. Watched Indy, now watching NASCAR. Went to my local dirt track last night. Don’t pay any attention to where it was built, where the drivers from.
    I guess I’m a simple man.

  19. I guess it's me but I just don't enjoy watching the Indy 500 anymore, I was a big fan when I was younger and the cars still resembled roadsters, today they look like jet planes and they are all identical.

I don't doubt for one minute that the technology of today hasn't made these cars as safe as possible and the speeds are amazing, but to me it's just boring. HRP

The current, fourth-generation IndyCar formula was presented in 2012. The engines are now 2.2-liter twin turbo V-6's putting out estimated 550–750 hp depending on the level of boost used. They are limited to 12,000 rpm. Engines are currently supplied by Chevrolet and Honda.

I miss the days when Indy was a hotbed for hot rods. Smokey Yunick and small block Chevys, Buick V6's, heck Cummins even raced diesels back in the day. Offy was king of the hill for years, then the Cosworth Fords took over. I think Lil John Buttera even tried his hand building an Indy car or two. Now it's just like every other form of round track racing, only use certain chassis, certain engines, etc. Makes it more like an IROC race than a true competition.

That's what I like about bare bones heads up drag racing, not the professional kind, but the Saturday night home track deal. As long as you meet a few safety rules, it's run what you brung, and hope you brung enough. The backyard guy has the same chance as the high dollar sponsored guy. Just more real to me.....

Yup times have really changed. So the Ilmore engine is Spanish . Did you say Firestone is owned by Bridgestone ? WTF!

I am with you 100%. Those Indy days are long gone but I’m glad I got to see the ‘50’s Offy roadsters as a little kid thru the Lil’ John Buttera , Smoky , Mickey Thompson and all the other small private and innovative teams.

There a spec engine, nobody else can play besides Honda. Kind of a hollow victory.

Btw, Toyota won the Coca-Cola 600, whoopee!

Bridgestone has owned Firestone for several years now.

And Chrysler is owned by Fiat and is traded on the Italian stock exchange, so Rams, Jeeps Chryslers, and Dodges are as American as Hondas and Toyotas. Also, I think all Camaros are made in Canada. The world out there does not exist in the HAMB friendly years.

I don't usually watch Indy cars but that was a good race. I also watched Nascar this evening, another good race and my guy Truex won it.

    What's a Chevrolet anyway?

I watched the start of the Indy race, set the dvr so I could watch it later, left to go to the flea Market at Packwood for the afternoon and took off. A 200 mile road trip later over three passes and walking around Packwood and buying a few things I kicked back to watch the race and it timed out with about 15 laps to go due to the delay from the wreck.
By the way, I don't think they hand out cool guy creds for badmouthing the way race cars or cars in general are built now.
