Looking good! You'll have a nice solid car once you deal with the small stuff you have shown in the photos. Have you worked out a plan for the stance/suspension yet? I found that a few inches of drop really changed the look of my car. I used Aerostar springs in front to lower it 2 inches and 3 inch blocks in the rear (should have used 2 inch blocks- I have to use a little scissor jack to raise it up to get the floor jack under it, lol).
On the motor situation, you might try finding a late 50's to early 60's 223 inline six with the 3 speed manual trans. if you want to stay in a more traditional time-frame or for the later 250 c.i. six that Ford used from '69 to '80 mated to a 3 speed (or 4 speed). Either choice would be interesting and would stand out from doing what is usually done (like I did) and go with the v-8 swap. It won't be as easy as the v-8 swap but it will stand out from the crowd more. I sure wish I had gone that route but I had the 302 finished and ready to go so I used it.
Keep at it and have fun while ya do!

Thanks for the note, still a few months away from making any major decisions on suspension and brakes. However the Jamco tube control arms look really nice and would be a significant upgrade. Probably will do the same sort of drop you did. The only thing that gives me any concern is: my understanding is those are part sourced from Classic Performance, which from personal experience tends to be poorly made.

As for the motor, I'm 92% sure I'll go with 302 crate motor from Blueprint. Still not sure what direction I want to go on the transmission, but most likely will go for a 5 speed manual.

Pretty stoked at the overall condition of the car. Thanks again for your interest!

I got my Aerostar springs from Rockauto.com for around $50, the blocks were from Jamco IIRC, about $70. 302/5-spd trans. will make it a fun driver for sure!

Wire brushed, and sanded the hell out of the inside of the driver's side fender today. Then coated with Chassis Saver. 20181201_151307.jpeg

Chassis Saver is NO joke. Don't get that shit on anything you don't want it on!

  10. You do nice work! Sheet metal guys amaze me! I can make anything run, and no auto or truck wiring scares me, but metal work, I’ll run and hide!

  11. Did you ever decide what to do with your wiring? Replace it with an aftermarket wiring kit or re-do it yourself?

Same fender preparations as yesterday in the passenger side fender. Found what looks like a bullet hole repaired with led. 20181202_123839.jpeg 20181202_123847.jpeg 20181202_124558.jpeg

That movie has been one of my favorites since the 50s. The white 50 Ford in the movie is actually a 51 with a 50 nose

Would rather not cut into hood, metal seems to thin to weld a patch

I see new plug wires..... does the “6” run?.....Mark

  22. I would grind off the old weld, what looks like a blob, and re-weld it. then place some backer metal behind it to reinforce it. Best to be done with a TIG but can be miged.

Negative. Has spark, compression, and fuel but can't get her running.

You have any advice for getting it running? Without pulling the head, pretty hard to determine TDC on that engine. I think that might be what's holding me back.

With fuel, spark and compression it ought to run. Bring #1 up on the compression stroke and pull the dist cap and see where the rotor button is. It should be coming up close to the #1 tower.....Mark

Here is the progression for the repair of the hood crack. Sanded everything down to bare metal, ground off the old welds, put some copper behind to absorb heat and slowly tacked together. 20190504_150453.jpeg 20190518_120213.jpeg 20190526_134324.jpeg

Magnet paint company chassis saver. Stuff is bulletproof for inner fenders, figure it should work here too. 20190526_134302.jpeg 20190526_141858.jpeg

nice score on this little Ford tu-door, coupes are cool but I like the tu-door sedan for more rear seat space, and those awesome wing windows on the back windows. I see the great results a light compounding has done, I suggest a soft toothbrush to get around your chrome etc. this is a good way to get those areas clean and not remove to much paint. Floors are really good for age of the ride, patch it up and go for it. The overdrive is cool, good luck with that project. You can do it!!
