Hey. This might be a simple question but I don't know how to do it. I have a 51 Styleline. I took off the wiper arms but I can't figure out how to get the s/s wiper cover off. But what is the trick to getting the little chrome wiper arm cover off? Seems like the pinion tip that holds the arm needs to come off to remove the cover. Does it screw off? Pry off? (I know I can unscrew the bolt underneath the dash but it doesn’t seem to give room to remove that cover.) Any advice?
Thanks. But I’m still having trouble getting it off. I unscrewed the underside bolt and part i want is loose. But I cant detach the outside unit from the wiper arms underneath. The arms are riveted. Does the shaft slide off somehow from the transmission arm? Or does the pinion tip pop off? I want to rechrome the wiper cover unit. Seems like it should be easy to get off but like everything’s else with this car... nooooo.
Aha. I see. I guess I was so focused on just removing that end cap to rechrome that I was blind. But now I see. I still wish it was removable to rechrome. Might just paint it with chrome paint (?). Or maybe I’ll just clean it up. Thanks for your fast assistance.
I would just clean it with steel wool or something, and not worry about it. But I'm lazy like that. if you want to take it apart, you'll have to figure out how to put it back together. It is swedged or something, that little splined end that the wiper arm fits onto. If you can find another pair, you could experiment with one pair and see if you can get them replated and back together. Usually, things like that don't work out very well, in my decades of experience doing this stuff.
I totally agree! Nothing with car restoration is ever as simple as you imagine it. I'll just keep them the way they are and clean them up. Thanks again.
Will the splines on the outside come off, some are pinned. Replacement splines are pinned or set screwed
"The Eustachian tube, also known as the auditory tube or pharyngotympanic tube, is a tube that links the nasopharynx to the middle ear. It is a part of the middle ear. In adult humans the Eustachian tube is approximately 35 mm (1.4 in) long and 3 mm (0.12 in) in diameter." And... Way ,way too small to cover a windshield wiper pivot !!!
how about this? noun: escutcheon 1. a shield or emblem bearing a coat of arms. 2. a flat piece of metal for protection and often ornamentation, around a keyhole, door handle, or light switch.
