So grateful to be re-living this! I was already deep into my 'build', ('30 Cabriolet channeled over '32 rails, nice smooth roadster-type)
Suddenly, Norm's T appeared on the cover of Car Craft, re-designed, and wild!
The suicide front end w/reversed wishbones got me, so the $8 '38 Ford tube axle was readied for installation on my 'otherwise conservative Cabriolet'...
Norm was an avalanche of influence on most of us.

Years ago we put white ceramic tile down in our paint booths and it really kept the dust down and was easy to clean up. The air makeup as heat and AC so we shot with the same reducer an hardners year round, you could really get it dialed in. You can block out runs flat with a bar of Lava Soap nice and flat, the pumis in it cuts really good and flat.

    This is awesome!
I have always liked the earlier versions of this car, not much the latest version.

Is there a standard wait period between the cut and buff? It all looks great. Bob

Just curious I recall after posting a pic of the California kid being flamed with the Artist and @Dean Lowe mentioned Manuel Reyes as the artist behind the iconic visuals...is there a connection here or is that just a coincidence?...just curious...;)

    If so that's kinda cool...

  14. @Stogy -

I think it's just a coincidence ... Reyes is a very common Hispanic surname ... plus Manuel Reyes is from Southern California and Eric is a Bay Area (Northern California) product.

    Here's a circa 2011 and a circa 2016 video about Eric:

NOTE: Eric also did the graphics & lettering on the restored Chet Herbert Beast 4 streamliner:

Now back to this thread about the restoration of the Kookie Kar.

I just thought there might be a family connection. The Manuel must be getting up there in age but could have been father passing on skills. Thanks @HEMI32, they are walking in familiar footsteps that's for sure...Cool vids...;)...Artist, Racer, and, and how good is that...

  20. I was wondering why the body and frame covers were set up on the chassis; last few pics explained it. Never noticed the flames extended down there. Neat.

  26. Today (Saturday, May 25th), Darryl @hollenbeck32 Hollenbeck finished painting Kookie's rear-end:

The original color was still on the center of the rear end under the fake Quickchange cover ... looks like a perfect match:

He also finished painting Kookie's spindles, tie-rod ends, ... and all four wheels:

In Sunset show footage a Creepy Skull was present on the shifter. Was the characters in the picture shown on the rear area of this Hotrod present during the Sunset series.

Is that something that will be present in this period of restoration happening as we type? Just curious...I'm thinking yes...If so is the original still present?

Upon further inspection there's a Tiki character as well...It's all Kookie isn't it...

It's been discussed before but that's crazy backyard wrenching...I know where some of the most trusted welding should be that's for sure.

    Fathers Day Debut?
I realize Pomona is only nineteen days away, but while it's been painted I'm sure the crew at Roy Brizios'
shop has been busy with the rest of the build.
I know what the great team at Sid Chavers is capable of, so it is not out of the question that it might be finished in time for the LA Roadster Exhibition.
    At least I can DREAM!
