That's going to be one sweet 270! What else are you doing to it other than the 315 heads?

461 Booth-Arons Iron head from the early 70s. Bought it from Clyde Hensley who happens to be on American Pickers tonight, selling his EJ Potter V-8 Motorcycles. 101_2910.jpg

Right now, There is a 258" 8BA with a MAX-1 cam, Edmunds heads, and an old Mallory flattop. And yes, if you look close, that is a Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. They came on Chevrolet and Buick 262 ci V6's, so the size should be OK. It's a project I am currently working on. My problem now is that the Sharp 4 BBL manifold I am using has only 7 bolts holding it on. There are three in the manifold that have no match in the block, and two in the block that have no match in the manifold. It won't run for shit, and I think I have vacuum leak problems. I am having serious doubts about the quality of the Sharp manifold, and am thinking of abandoning this part of the project.

Next up is a '51 Olds Rocket. It is a fresh rebuilt that I got cheap from a guy who didn't want it after he bought it and found out it wasn't a Small block Chevrolet. I have pulled it down enough to see that it is clean enough to be a fresh engine, and to find it has an Isky cam and Gotha adjustable rockers. I am going to remove the dual quad manifold and temporarily substitute an Offenhauser three deuce unit with the end carbs blocked of for initial start-up. Should be interesting.

Previously, I had the '56 truck hemi on it. It was also supposed to be a fresh rebuild that was pulled from a dump truck when the clutch went bad. I lucked out again; when had it on the stand, and it would run all day at 55 lbs of oil pressure and 175 degrees. I have a car timing cover and a four BBL wet manifold for it, so I can make it sort of "Hot Rod friendly", but I think these also have heavy, sodium filled exhaust valves. I don't know if they would be a problem or not.
    IMG_1578.JPG

And after that, I have the original 80K engine out of my '51 Ford. It ran great, but started making a funny noise a couple of years ago. I replaced it with a '51 Merc I had. When I changed the oil pans, I found a piece of what appears to be the rear main bearing thrust surface in the bottom of the Ford pan. When I get it up and apart, I am hopeful that the crank is OK and it just needs a new rear main.. If so, rings and a touch up of the valves should give me another good flathead.

Something tells me I won't finish all of these:(.

I covet thy stash of engines....

only stand mounted motor I have is this old guy that won't make it very long after I start her up. has cracked exhaust ports so I am going to thrash it hard with the blower. was rebuilt about 25 years ago with 30+" of weld in the oil pan rails lol.

If it's like any of the 8BA's I had in the old days, it'll probably run forever.:D

1966 Pontiac 389 for $100. Included a set of heads too that I removed to find a single cylinder rusted and corroded due to a blown head gasket. I have since cleaned up the cylinder and it rotates now. Pulled some caps and the bearing and crank looked good. Not bad for a $100. Will pickle it and store it. That makes five (5) 389 engines now...obviously my favorite engine. Randy
