Yeah looks like photoshopped or someone used a black felt-tip marker on the pic

  3. 56 Plates were used up to 1962. A renewal sticker was issued each year so these plates were good all the way to 1963.
A 63 Riviera I once owned got the same type 56 plates since it was sold new late in 1962.

As sad as this looks, things could get better, the license plate on the vehicle is 1940, we were just about to enter a major war, and it would be up to ladies like this to step up to the plate and go to work in factories that supply the US war machine. This is the kind of women who would show up to work everyday and do the real crappy jobs without crying about how dirty she got.

something that's bothered me--this is the first pic i've seen where the gas customer pulled up to the pump with the filler by the pump. hate seeing that hose draped over the trunk lid!

this reminds me of the early days at gateway in st. louis. spectators were allowed to sit on the edge of the track. pretty scary with cars in the '70s that could hit almost 250 mph!

i was wondering if she was even 30 years old. life has really taken its toll on her. my grandfather flipped houses in los angeles in the '20s and drove a doozy. when the crash came, he had to move to chicago and start anew. in '36, my dad got on at the ford plant and outearned grandpa!

My guess would be South America on this. Definitely not a US number plate.
