Took my Mercury to a little car meet local to me at Brooklands in the UK. I believe this was the world's first purpose-built motor racing circuit, construction starting in 1906! Now a museum there and some of the track still exists. They wouldn't let me take the Merc up on the banking. Shame!
That's a bit of a trippy place for a show...you must sense a feeling and hear the sounds that would have filled the air back in the day looking at that...Hotrods and Customs look great @japchris Thanks for sharing...
Looks like a great time at a great venue. Thanks for sharing! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yes there's quite an atmosphere there and people over the years have reputedly seen ghosts, particularly a figure in white overalls that disappears before their eyes. It is thought to be the ghost of the first man to drive at 100MPH killed at Brooklands on 31 October 1913 (Halloween) attempting to beat his own record. He was buried in a streamlined coffin to match his car. Some more details here -
Racers although revered were pretty vulnerable worldwide...especially in light of no crash protection...must have been an exhilerating thrill but a breakage or blowout could quickly erase that in a heartbeat...what a magnificent landmark...your Merc looks a little Sporty, in a good way of course...
