Customs Just bought this one in April

I know this car isn't a hot rod or custom but I thought maybe it might be interesting to some of you other car guys here.
1949 Plymouth Woody
Needs some work but.......I HAD to buy it.

 

Looks like a good home for a Hemi

 

I like it and I'm not even a MoPar kind of guy.

Just the fact that is still exists is amazing. Probably too much money to fully restore and maybe even cooler as a survivor .Very cool, have fun with it.

I agree I'm not a MoPar guy either, but this is a neat car

 

I was watching the bids for that online. Did you go in person or buy it online? How bad were the floors? Cool car, good luck with it.

 

While not a fan of early '50s Mopar styling, it's a woody! Very cool...

Any details on that rear bumper? That center section must swing away/down or something, otherwise you wouldn't be able to open the tailgate or access the spare tire...

 

Yes, but an old Hemi, a real Hemi not one of those modern fuel injected lumps they are calling Hemis

 

I have seen a few MOPAR station wagons of that era, but nothing as cool as that car. Have fun, whatever you decide to do with the ride.

I did not go in person as I lived 1100 miles away. Besides, it was an online auction only. I took a chance and I am not disappointed. The underside needs some work, which I was aware of, but I am going to try to get the car up and running/stopping and then deal with the other stuff.

Yes, the rear bumper is "hinged" and swings down. I will get a few pics of it a little later this weekend,

The wood on that looks to be in great shape. That center brake light has to be made of unobtainium!

 

The wood is near perfect and all original.
The center brake light may be made of unobtainium BUT the rear bumper is made of ultra unobtainium.

 

Nothing like a good looking termite emporium!

I took a picture today of how the rear bumper folds down but the cable from the camera to the computer was broken so I couldn't download it. I will try again tomorrow

Cool survivor.....that motor made it to the late 50's so parts shouldn't be that hard to come by.....good luck with it !

 

I'll take #3 from the left; love them brown eyed brunettes. It's why I married one. But, despite the ladies, I've never seen a Plymouth Wagon, let alone a Woody Wagon. Very nice, but I'll still take #3 from the left.

That rear bumper has got to be the only one remaining on the earth . Nice car , I’m not a Mopar guy , but you my friend have a nice one . I’m not sure a Hemi is your answer . A electronic 360 would really be nice . But the Hemi rules in the cool factor .

 

I will agree about the rear bumper being hard to find but there are probably/maybe at least 20+ or so on the remaining surviving 49 Plymouth Woodies.
I am planning on keeping the car stock/original. That's why I was a little hesitant to post it here. I didn't want to ruffle any feathers about not making it a custom or rod.
Something this unusual needs to be kept original - at least in my opinion.
