It doesn't have to be the first time shown, but has to be the first time competing for an award.
Ridler is the award where everything has to be kept under wraps.

  3. Nice Hot Rod. I'd own it :D

  4. What a strange coincidence that we refer to Dons 32 with all parts at least 60 years old- as his ‘New Car’- and yet the iphone used to take pictures -arguably one of the pinnacles of modern technology and only 3 or 4 years in existence is referred to as ‘Old’!

The pines grill and the 63 plates just don't seem to fit. I can't understand why he got the plates wrong .

  7. To paraphrase Mark Twain:

“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” :D

As you are probably well aware, that is not a 1963 California plate ... but rather one of the "California Legacy Plates" that the DMV started offering in June of 2015.

Up here in the Bay Area, just about every new (i.e., MY16, MY17, & MY18) black vehicle is running these plates ... I must see at least 4 dozen of them everyday during my commute.

Since the "Month" & "Year" stickers hadn't even been affixed to the Roadster's rear plate, I'm guessing Mr. Orosco might have "borrowed" the front California Legacy Plate off one of his daily drivers ... so that he could debut his (recently completed) Deuce at the (August 15th 2017) Concours On The Avenue in the town of Carmel-By-The-Sea.

Perhaps he'll have a circa 1956-57 California plate:

... on the car when it is shown at the 2018 GNRS ... ???

And I am aware it is a 63 plate because the "63" is clearly stamped in the upper left hand corner of the plate -visible in the picture. Also the legacy plates are easy to spot , as they are not exact stamping as the 63 plates, there is a slight difference in stamping and color on letters

It's a 63 -up plate. The next one is blue with yellow numbers/letters. My son still uses one on his 2007 since it's a personal. My 40 has a black plate as it was it's last one which was last renewed in 1974. nonopt since

  14. @Bob McCaffrey - I noticed you mentioned (in another thread) that you work for Don Orosco ... I am curious what has become of Don's full-fendered Deuce Roadster ... did he sell it? ... or ???

I won concours on the avenue in Carmel last year, 2018 and I was not allowed to enter the AMBR competition this year, 2019. that's their rules.
