Vintage shots from days gone by!

Plates are issued with the first year of issue stamped on them.. They continue until they run out or numbers. Then change colors and start over again. Each year a small stick on tag covers the rear plate date stamp. I think by now they may not have a stamped date at all.

I guess you don't. The yellow plates issued in 56 got annual sticker updates on the rear plate until '63. In 63, all yellow plates were replaced with black ones. There was never a complete replacement of plates again. Stickers are issued every year, blue plates were issued around 70 and white ones around '90. The black, blue, white plates are all valid currently. Recently a bill was passed allowing us to pay an additional $50 to get new black plates. Also, YOM plates are available for classic cars of any year including the old big plates that were issued pre-1956. They all get current year stickers on the rear plate.

And the plates stay with the new car they were issued to as long as the car is running on the street.Sell the car.Plates stay on it unless the owner pays fpr new plates.
