Here is the other one. Funny thing I was on another site and found the ONLY difference besides the color of the valve covers was the CAMSHAFT

    Here it is.

In 1965, Chevy introduced their new big block to replace the 409. It was introduced into 2 cars; the L78 396/425HP Corvette and the Z16 396/375HP Malibu/Chevelle SS 396. What was the difference in the motors where the Corvette was rated 50HP more?

    The camshaft used.

The L78 used a solid lifter cam (same as the L72) while the Z16 used a milder hydraulic cam.

All other components were the same such as 800 cfm Holley carburetor, 11:1 compression, forged pop-top pistons, aluminum high-rise intake manifold, steel crankshaft, rectangular ("square") port closed chamber heads, and four-bolt main caps.

posts 35 & 36 this guy has all sorts of esoteric info on muscle cars.

Well LB, I read the link that you posted and STILL didn't believe it. Then I searched high and low for my Chevy by the Number's book and looked in there and guess what I found? I'll be damned if you're not right! I could have sworn that everything was the same. Oh well, I guess you learn something new every day! Now, could you please pass the salt and pepper, all this crow tastes pretty bland!

That can't be right.... I thought all L-78 396/402 engines had solid lifter cams....

I also posted this on unusual engine photos as it's an OT car and can't go in HAMB era prototypes

Yessir. Looks like from '66 on it was solid lifter 375 hp. Not so much in '65 though...
