  1. IMG_8906.JPG I went out and fired up my 55 chevy. My Grandsons Grayson 4 and Dean 3 came running from the house over to the shop as soon as I got it started. They really liked the 283 with open hedders. They shook some rattle cans for me. and I sprayed on some flat black. the flat black on it is 12 years old and a lot of that hideious Coral (pink) paint was beginning to show.

Went to Tulsa International Drag strip for the first time in years! As a crew member! Spend three days there and threw one night in at Thunderbird Speedway dirt track to boot. GOOD week end!!!

Got up early, threw a bunch of ribs on the smoker , Had Mom & Dad + the whole fandamily over for Mothers Day lunch. After that went to roll the 377 shortblock onto the patio to paint it....The stand I had it on doesn't fit thru the back dooro_O. Narrowed the legs one at a time , rolled it out back, masked it off and painted it:D. Time for a cold brew:cool:

I bit the bullet and pressure washed the rear end that came out of my roadster only to then decide I'm not putting it back in. Nothing wrong with it, I just like making more work for myself I guess.

After years of being on the back burner the Bonneville and El Mirage record holding 1940 Chevrolet coupe of the Tones has come out of hiding to start it's transition to being a street rod for Patrick. The first photos is how it looked near the end of it's racing. It was last run at Bonneville in 1999 and started in 1975 when it was black. The original car was own by Noel Melovich who lived in Pasadena when purchased by JD Tone in 1974 for the princely sum of $500. It's one time 409 was gone but it still look like the C/Gasser it had been. Noel had Blairs Speed Shop build it for the drags after he had run it on the street with a SBC.
The future not real sure but it with have 302 GMC stock head with a Howard intake and cam, Nicson cast headers, Baron/Tattersield covers and a 4 speed. There will some modern parts too as Patrick wants it with what we raced it with and we have stashed. The aluminum interior will remain along with the 2 fiberglass seats with mismatched upholstry. The biggest addition will be front brakes and correct ackerman steering. Oh yeah, there is a pink slip and registration

Sit her back on the ground today. Yes 36 axle and reversing the eye will give a Model A 3 inches of drop. 20190511_112414.jpg 20190513_165448.jpg 20190513_165417.jpg

spent some time in Bisbee last year when traveling through your country. Didn’t stay near long enough. Look forward to a return visit. The Hudson looks great.

  23. Today I finally got the 9 inch housing under the 55. Used the stock chevy u bolts and bottom plate. I found some NOS rear shocks in my hoard. Then went on a search for my scatter shield bellhousing. I last used it 50 years ago. after a couple hours of looking I found it. I got to looking at it. I knew it was a dual pattern with the Chev and BOP provision. I had forgot it has a starter mount on the passenger side. So I can use it & install a Pontiac engine in the 55 and the starter will not interfere with the steering sector and idler arm. I do have a real good 400 Pontiac engine with the stick flywheel . I cant sleep thinking about it. Their predicting rain for this weekend. So the George Rays event will likely not be viable? I think the front cap will come of the wagon tomorrow and a engine swap will begin!

  24. Finally got around to installing the dome light in my coupe. I had the shell plated and fit a modern socket to it last summer; but neglected to install it all winter. Decided I needed mounting studs on the '48 lights for the coupester project, so I welded machine screws into the housings; blasted the burnt paint and repainted them. Sucks that all the stores are now infested with the stupid dual pattern hardware.
Worked on the '33 last week and was finally able to free the pictures from Google drive jail. After getting the body back from the 'blaster, we unexpectedly found the braces under the rear floor rotted. Cut them off and welded on new stiffeners.

I always think the same exact thing when I get over 100 MPH. It's amazing how one small nut, and a cotter key, can withstand.
