  12. I got a chance to sit in it on our way to the hamb drags. The movie came out when I was a little kid. It had alot to do with getting into old cars. 20170818_130926.jpg 20170818_132403.jpg

You have to respect a guy that drives his car to the drags, and carries his racing gear in a trailer, and is ready to race...Props to you.

  17. I think we all would get a kick out of sitting in that car, or Jake's coupe or the Super Bell coupe. HRP

  20. 20150815_163447.jpg 20150815_161904.jpg 20150815_161919.jpg It fit like a glove. The California kid is one of five hot rods I went crazy over as a kid. I'm still crazy over these same cars years later. The Milner coupe; Willie's from hot rod; falfas 55 and last the Jimmy Addison silver bullet 67 gtx. I'm into fast street cars. I have done drag week several years in a row. The silver bullet is a Woodward Avenue legend. I was at the Woodward dream cruise a few years ago and saw the bullet on display in the mopar area. I stuck up a conversation with the current owner. He couldn't believe a guy from Wisconsin knew so much about this famous Detroit legend. When he figured out who I was in the mopar world he let me sit in the bullet. The way the car was positioned in the parking lot as i sat in the car i was pointed right at the street signs of 13 mile road and woodward. The car felt perfect like it was made for me. I closed my eyes and for a moment I was Jimmie in the bullet on Woodward. The owner then fired up the car for me. It sounded like it was ready to race. Talk about a thrill to see it running right in front of me. A dream come true.
The bullet was the king of Woodward. It ran ets comparable to the pro stocks of the day in the 9s on the street. Unheard of ets back then for a street car. It was the Chrysler test car that I'm sure helped. Sorry to hijack this thread for a moment. it's cool to experience the magic of famous cars. Cars you dreamed about for years and shaped your future.

  21. racer-x, the California Kid, Jake's Coupe, and yes the American Graffiti 32 Coupe, Falfas 55, even more so the two lane Blacktop version, my high school Buddy's yellow big block and green flamed 55 Chevy are just a small batch of cars I crave. My list goes on, and gets bigger, (longer?) all the time. And yes I fit in the Kid. I did hit my head on the roof getting in, I'm use to an open car, but it won't happen again.

Yeah it really does feel good. The interior is more contemporary looking than Jakes coupe but it’s way more comfortable to me.

Every time I'm down there I'm amazed at how much more vivid that car is in person than it is in any pictures of it. It really pops when you are standing beside it. An all time favorite.

Went on a TDY trip from Ft. L. Wood to Whitehorse AFB (I think that was the name, I was in the Army), stopped for the night in the middle of nowhere, next morning got up and look out the motel window and I was right across the street from Pete & Jakes. Went over and the man in charge gave us a tour, lets us sit in the cars and told us several local car shows.

  26. Years ago, before Jerry Slover bought Pete & Jakes, the coupe was sold by Pete Chapouris to Chris Carrier of West Hartford, Connecticut. Chris later sold the coupe back to Pete Chapouris. Any way, Chris decided to go to a swap meet at B & B auto shop / speed shop in Berlin, Connecticut, and asked me to go with him. Little did I know that he would pick me up in the California Kid coupe. So, I did get to sit in it, as well as a wild ride in it. Chris was known to acquire N.O.S. early ford parts, and he installed a N.O.S. set of running boards on the coupe, as he didn't like the beat up original running boards. He later sold the coupe back to Pete. Chris is gone now, but the memories of him, and his antics will live forever.

You won’t find better people than the Slovers. It’s on my list of future road trips.

  28. Did they let you adjust the front end with a torch? ;)
