History Detroit police new fleet 1937

Great image! Detroit must have had a pretty sweet Police Dept. budget to be able to purchase so many new '37 Fords at one time.

 

I have a photo of 10 (from memory it was ten) brand new '37 Fords parked side by side in Hamilton NZ, all owned by a taxi company

 

Detroit, believe it or not, was one of the wealthiest cities on the planet. "Paris of the Midwest".

 

.........Sad to contemplate just how much that has changed.

 

About $600.00 each,

 

That's probably 30 or 40 thousand dollars in today's "New and Improved" greenbacks.

 

Hopefully heat but no AC, no auto trans..Maybe heavier springs and the adjustable Houdailles dialed up with conditioned air from opening windshield...

 

.........and cowl vent.
