Amazing pictures, amazing story. I love how they ran out of spare tires and eventually drove the truck there with the race car's tires on it! Even the backgrounds are amazing, thanks for sharing.

Any background information on Mr. Fred Head, what a trip that must of been. I say, "good for him and his crew".

Those are some awesome pics, thanks for sharing! Thumbs up to Grandma for saving them and digging them out.
Quite an adventurous group of first timers hauling out from Michigan. Matching purple truck and a then new 55 Chevy (that had already taken a RR hit). That B&W of the 55 lined up behind the lakester indicates it may have been the push car as the front end looks to have gathered a lot of salt from the lakester tires!?

WOW what great photos and a piece of hot rod history.

Actually that is a 51, 2 or 3 Chevy truck with a custom 54 nose and TF box. I wonder if someone in the group didn't happen to work inor have a body shop.

Amazing pics and story thanks Scott. Can't help but wonder if we are related somehow, Jim Sheehan, Ontario Canada.

That two-tone Shoebox in the 9th pic is looking pretty sharp. Thanks for sharing this, really enjoyed it.
