That sucks Larry! At least you are getting plenty of repair practice. This is the one in your Vicky isn't it?

Antique Nationals 2019 has been cancelled due to rain.
No 2019 rain date scheduled, it looks like 2020 is the next one.

No, another engine, it is a B that I built with .040 over 392 Hemi pistons that come .086 above the deck, inserted also. It is a total of
.140 over. It was in the Cabriolet last time it was at Hill Climb. Smoothest engine I've ever had. The block was brazed from the backside for a repair by a previous owner. It looked OK but it leaks oil...all over. I'm thinking this might be a candidate for another OHV conversion...first things first, crack repair then figuring out if the pistons will work with the head. Then there is getting a head gasket that has a fire ring that doesn't hang into the cylinder. Banger power...the most money that can be spent to go slow. It's an addiction...but I don't smoke or drink.

I've got the same head,my 3/4 reach plug barely extends into the chamber..I was told to CC the head but I didn't care,I was going to run it anyway..but now your head has me wondering...was there that much deviation in chamber depth with these heads? hell,2 threads on a spark plug averaged out could be 30 cc difference in total volume of the chamber..

I dont know a thing about casting and foundry work could the mold have been changed? maybe.Logic says any deviation comes with machining..

DSCF0862.JPG Are these rear motor mounts early AR or AA Truck items? They have the early forged outer plates. Thanks! Bob

So I took the Vicky out this morning for the more or less local Coffee and Cruise. I heard it leave...the oil filler cap for the larger 'improved' oil filler. 2 1/4". I stopped right away to check what the noise was...hunted and hunted on the side of the road.
I'ts a bummer and these are difficult to come by....anyone have a spare?....it will get a chain now like the old school drain stopper if I find a replacement one...
    Thank you,
    Larry

  13. Why did it leave? Was the screen in the cap blocked?

  14. Getting ready, finally, for my rebuilt diamond block. Mocked my bling up on a spare motor. Thinking of a copper coil from the B fuel pump to the strombergs. Still not set on 81s or 97s. 1.5 intakes and winfield grind cam.[IMG]

    Another STEWPID NEWBIE question...

I'm running a 94 on my banger. Should any permatex type sealant be used with the carb or carb/intake gaskets?

I'm a woodworker and low grade shade tree mechanic...with no leaves on the tree!

Given the luck I've had with 94's a zipper might be the best..

Satire? Was question THAT stewpid? I'm easily confused by gaskets and sealants.

Sorry, yes that was satire.its a matter of preference,to use sealant or not,I don't use it on a carb mounting gasket.A very light smear of permatex ultra grey sealant on the intake manifold gasket, once again, its if its needed..on the green cardboard yes, copper or steel no.. once the engine has been warmed up re tighten intake and carb mount bolts..

    Thank you sir!

  21. Railcar,

yes, 94's have been a challenge in multiples installations.
it has to do with the low speed signals to the fuel metering.
I rather like them for street driving, but in a single application only.

oh, no sealer on the base gaskets, IMHO.

Thank you John. I'm running a single 94 for street driving. Got it reconditioned from Bob Drake. Have run it for a couple yrs, no problem. Now seems to hemorrhage gas...ethanol maybe? Using only non-alcohol fuel now.

  23. More than likely just needle and seat is contaminated.
If you haven't tried this, drain the fuel blow and then refill, it lets the needle drop fully away from the seat and sometimes it washes out the contaminate.

Either my starter is old and worn or it just doesn’t like the 6.1 head on it. Starter spins motor slow and won’t start the car. Good grounds and connections. New 6v battery also.

Thinking of getting a high torque starter.

bummer on your problem . try putting a 12v battery on starter only . check voltage at coil (both sides)

Have voltage. Have spark. Tried that yesterday with the 12v. Starter didn’t like it. Thinking she’s cooked.

JT1930 - I switched to 12v. Truly amazed by cranking/starting boost. (Some may wish to disguise their alt. however).
