Good timing on this thread as I've been kicking around some ideas for tail lights on my 47 Old's coupe. Been really liking 41/42 Buick lights, but not sure if the contour is right. Maybe somebody has a pic of them on a Old's or Chev body of the same era as mine.

I’m happy with how mine turned out. Although, I would probably go a different route next time.

Harley tail lights, and vw accessory light as a third brake light. The third light has a flashing led, and the words “stop” in reflective tape on the inside.

You know I have a old license plate frame that a friend gave me , said it was off of a old Hot Rod, probably 35+ years ago and it has a light on it, and the name on says... 20190511_012450.jpeg

Hold on a minute, before your iceberg starts to burst, I only got part of the frame , but I do have the light...its a little bruised and scratched, I think the old Hot Rod got crashed maybe, but its stainless so it could be worked out with a block of wood and a hammer, or HAMBER, a little buffing and perfect...I did have another one that was little more rounded with 3or4 ribs that went down the center , more of a artdeco look , then on each side of it I had 3 58 Impala taillights, 6 total, that I replaced all the lens with 53 Buick lenses makes a good looking light. It was on a 50 Chevy pu I had with a rolled pan. 20190511_013503(0).jpeg 20190511_013227.jpeg 20190511_013140.jpeg 20190511_013424.jpeg 20190511_012450.jpeg

    Hello,
One day in April, I was walking along a quiet street, looking at a myriad of old cars and hot rods. One bright yellow convertible caught my eye. It was a 1953 Buick convertible all ready for tons of fun cruises around So Cal. Immediately, I went to the rear to see those cool tail lights.

My dad was a Buick fanatic. Except for his first car in So Cal (36 Dodge Sedan), they were all Buicks. So, my brother and I would always scrutinize our dad’s Buicks as to like it or not, and why. For instance, I loved the 1949 big black Buick sedan. It was the first big car after riding around in the smaller, 1941 Fastback sedan’s back seat. But, looking out of the Fastback, for us, was like being in a submarine peeking out of the side and rear windows.

The 49 Buick was the biggest car and had lots of playroom in the back seat. It had 4 doors and my brother and I did not get into a pushing match to see who got inside first. We each had a private door leading to the rear seating area. This big sedan, just hugged the road on the various trips and learning to steer when I was little.

But, skipping up to 1952-53, it was time, according to my dad, to trade in the big 49 Buick for a new car. (his mantra was a new car every 4 years) The first thing both of the brothers did was to scrutinize the new 4 door sedan from front to back. When I got to the rear, something caught my eye that made the purchase the coolest ever.

Those rear tail lights looked like 4 tubes of torpedos ready for launch against all other drivers. It must have been all of those Blackhawk Comics or countless submarine shows/movies that we read/watched. That blue Buick was again, a big hulk of a car. Countless unsuspecting drivers behind us bit the dust with our torpedo tubes and expert aim... We ruled the roads…and water.

But, this cool Buick and the torpedo tubes did not help us stay out of a deep ditch, 150 miles south of the border, on a fishing/camping trip. At the angle the taillights were pointed up, they could have been used as a launcher of flares.

I seemed to remember that maybe it was the Kennedy Bros. that did a baby blue 5 window that had a 64 vette vibe to it and I thought that it had Vette tail lights in it also, anybody remember that car, I think it was in a issue of RJ a few years back.. Id love to find see if I remember correctly or if someone else has done this also..
