Anybody remember a 59ish Corvette that ran at Islip Dragstrip LI NY? It was an 1/8mi. track. The Corvette was owned by Sal Accardi and was red. It had "there's 8 great tomato's in this can" on it. He pretty much owned the track and was a crowd favorite.

Some more random shots from my magazine page flipping. There's a chance that a couple of the shots I may have posted some time ago, I tried to search didn't see any , if I did I apologize. 20190430_224935.jpeg 20190430_224856.jpeg 20190430_224824.jpeg 20190430_223813.jpeg 20190430_223744(0).jpeg 20190430_222620.jpeg

Terry, where did you find the article on King Rat? I helped Ray and his brother Tim when they built that car and spent many days at the track with it. It more than likely is pretty responsible for my Corvette obsession.

    That's really cool Jim,
It was just a single picture in with some article covering a car show, I don't remember at the moment what magazine it was but I will go back through the pile and find it again, it's still next to my desk and if I see any other coverage of the car I will get it to you.

Is this tower at the old Dallas International Motor Speedway circa 1970?

When I knew Walt Hansgen he was one of John Mecom's three lead drivers along with Augie Pabst and John Cannon. Those guys could drive anything fast.

Boodlum it sure looks like the tower at Dallas. The car is Sam Gianino's 57 D/G Corvette. The NHRA ran the Spring Nationals at Dallas in 69 and 70 although at some point Sam Gianino switched to a Mopar. It may be either year I suppose.

Forgot for a moment that Gianino ran D/A in 69 including when he won class for a third year in a row at the National Championship at Indy. He won in CM/SP in 67, D/G in 68 and D/A in 69. Car was always a treat to watch.
