Hot Rods Anyone using a flathead V8 - 60

I dig this. Shades of the Gentry Ford. I've always wondered if you could put a T planetary behind one--and if it would survive.

 

anyone have a JUNK V8-60 eng?i have a set of smith jigglers that i want to make a coffee table on an engine with. i'm in florida

 

Rod Hynes, a good friend of mine, lives here in Tehachapi. He owns a neat T tub originally built by his dad before Rod was born. He refers to it as his older brother. It has a V860 in it originally built by Louie Senter. The car was on the cover of Hot Rod the first year and was featured in Hot Rod Deluxe a couple of issues ago. It's bright yellow and can stay up with my Hemi in my 32 roadster if I hold it steady and below 75! Absolutely fantastic car in the same family over 70 years. Look up the issue and enjoy a very good read plus lots of neat pictures.

 

Here's mine, had the 3 carb set up on it from speedway then I read Ryan did a side by side comparison with the Stromberg's and found the Speedway Way carbs are poor quality and that there junk. Sooo I stopped my progress for a bit till can save up for the Stromberg's. Anyway I like the look of the flathead.

 

Hi im looking for some history or info on speeds achieved with V8 60 power at Bonneville or ElMirage and gas/fuels/methanol etc used would be a great help.
Info on the So-Cal tank when the 60 was in it seemed to be 145mph?...Thanks

 

Yeah, just picked this 53 MG TD up in So Cal. Last registered in 1968.
Hasn't been touched. Not even washed in over 50 years. It had a broke rod, I'm replacing it and getting her running. Finally found the parts needed.

If you're talking about the MG. no, never been registered outa Ca.
Still has the original cal plates front and back with the last decal of 1968.

Hey pete 1, I tried sending a pm to you but it wouldn't let me send for some reason? I read some documents that said the car was out of state for a while but not where it went, this might be the car you're thinking of. The title has a leter to dmv saying it was outa state until 70. But was previously Ca car. So I'm not sure. 68 is what the Ca plate says. Maybe it was out only 2 years?

I was worried the blower would not fit in between the head water outlets. I want to run my twin 97s but keep it low and as little poss pokes out the hood

 

Saw a midget with V860 a few days ago on Craigslist (RI). Don't know what these are worth, but the engine, if fresh, should be worth a good portion of the asking price.

 

I have a decent V8-60, which needs the crank turned to .020" under. I understand that .010" under bearings are readily available, but .020s are really hard to find. Does anyone know of a source? (I've got to determine the year; I think 1940 engines had bigger crank journals.)

 

Took pics of this special v8-60. Casting [four 2cyl blocks] with all ports up top bolted thru to alum crankcase with long head studs, used v8-60 internals. Unusual exhaust header. This engine was at an Automotive museum in PA. It was found in a shed, not known who built it or for what use but it was run hard as crankcase was ventilated ..
