Hot Rods Hot Rods & Customs that have sit too long - lets see the photo's

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Apr 22, 2019.

  1. As I was digging through my stash of old photo's I ran across a photo of my friend Marshall's old 5 window coupe, he built this car and drove it to Bonneville in the early 2000's.

It never was a beauty queen and he started a body that would have been a very desirable find but had sustained a lot of damage when the barn it was stored in burnt to the ground, then the body sat outside for years in the open before Marshall drug it home and built the car

This is what the car looked like last time I saw it on the road. HRP

And this is what it looked like in 2007, I think the spiders were getting more use out of the car. :(

There is 1000s of why's a hot rod gets parked,I let my 28A kill the weeds for a few years,do too no time when racing for championships. Lots of other things stop them from being used.
If I were to guess about that 5window,just from looking at the photos you put up.
It turned out to be less fun to drive then the plan was=Steering was not well behaved/I see front rim out set is a lot of scrub, also amount of top chop likely makes drive comfort low, from both poor visibility an seating. Other things I can't see or know could add up too"It was fun for a time, but to much wrong was taking joy out of it.?

  5. A friend of mine (just turned 80) has a '32 coupe that he drove to high school. Sometime in the '60's I helped him drop a 406/4 speed into it. It's been buried (literally) in his garage since then. Not for sale.

I have found that for many, Bonneville is a 'Bucket List" and maybe driving to Bonneville in a chopped hot rod was part two of the Bucket List (I hate the term) and now they are done, 'been there, done that". As mentioned it was a long hard trip, but he did it. And the vehicle was a 'throw-away'.
I could help him out, we are looking for a new support vehicle for our possible last ever calendar shoot

My '64 Pontiac I got and started in '84...this is as far as I got while in school and last on the road in '94. Got rear ended and wiped out the back. While in school, I also got broadsided and crushed the pass rear fender. The bodyshop that repaired it used a rusty 1/4 that had been in the Mississippi mud for 20+ years and at least 4 gallons of bondo it would seem. So when it rear ended, I took all the insurance $ and bought a rust free rear end out of Arizona (the rest of the car is a rust free CA car) and set it aside until I could do it myself. Fast forward 20+ years and I finally got @clean cut creations to put the rear end on for me. It's still sitting though and its been so long now, I just have to tear the whole car apart and start over. One day....

My 51 Merc has been sitting since 1968. I purchased it in 2008 from a storage facility and moved twice since I purchased it. It sits in my garage waiting to hit the road again, but life keeps getting in the way.

both of these cars have been sitting for 40 years..I now own them both and are getting them going again..The Willys is now running but still needs clutch and brake work..The Austins' engine was seized and the t-10 trans was broken, needs a lot of love. 56589741_2639352769412322_6963656216190910464_o.jpg 44544453_1955589481200782_5535114488262426624_o.jpg

It will be for sale, sooner or later. Since he’s 80 it’s just a matter of time.

If you look in the back you can see the cowl of my '30 Roadster body. I found the body back in 1962, a channeled Hot Rod in dark gray primer. Bob

  29. This is a photo of my 48 coupe the day I bought it. Guy I got it from thought it had been sitting about 4 years. I didn't believe it since all 4 tires where so flat I thought they were part of the floor. Turns out all the paperwork I could find on it was from about 1992. I took me nearly a year, but its rewired, new fuel system, new brake system and drivable, licensed and insured. Still not sure why I even bought it. 1948 Ford coupe as found in building.JPG

    And now:
