I've been asking for HAMBer help through this whole process, so why stop now? What color pinstriping would you guys feel best compliments this feeble attempt at a flame job.......white, light blue, silver, ???

My first attempt at a flame job. I'm almost embarrassed to show it. Not quite up to Mike Lavallee standards but DIY passable.

Not a bad job at all for your first time. Do you airbrush? Maybe do some airbrushing to fill in some of the yellow with some lick flames or something.

Don't know what color to use to pinstripe.

I would ask you to do flames on mine...

  3. Heavy white pinstripe would be traditional and a light green would be a more modern touch. Screenshot_20190428-001710_Photobucket.jpg

I always liked blue on a black car, with white my second choice.

Mine are yellow, blue would define the edges? Also I wouldn't rely on those wooden crates despite the car being a light weight. Cinder blocks are just as dangerous and either could collapse at any time.

@evintho I think ya done pretty darn good on the flames...I added a white stripe, a couple of inner-flame details and a bit more red accent and I swapped in a Cheater Slick with a solid rim for a more vintage look. I feel your big meats are a bit modern but I may be completely wrong and if so my apologies. I think your flames and the Hotrod itself have a Jalopy Racer feel...

    One more...

  8. Depends on the era you are shooting for. Fat white pinstripe would be more of a 60s vibe. Thin blue stripe would be more 50s.

Great job, Evin. White will make them pop, blue will be a little more subtle, or the silver that's on the frame. Your choice, Carp.

Can't go wrong with white, Ed Roth did the McMullen '32 roadster. ScreenHunter_319-Dec.-04-17.22.jpg

Pick the era your shooting for. White to me (like stated a few posts ago) screams sixties.
Btw I think your flame look good.

I like the look of the blue the best, a friend had a 40 sedan with flames and light blue outline always liked it.

I think you did a great job on the flames for your first time. I would do white or blue like most have said or if you have another accent color on the car you could pull from that would tie it all together. Just my 2 cents. And again it looks good.

Thanks for all the replies! Sounds like it's pretty much split down the middle between white and light blue.
Many thanks to Stogy for the photoshop! Sat down with my wife and we toggled back and forth between Stogy's two pics. We've decided on light blue! Thanks again. I value all opinions on the HAMB!
BTW, as far as the wooden stands go, each stand consists of four PT 4x4s standing on end with a length of PT 2x12 tying them together on top, sheathed in 1/2" OSB, fastened with 3" exterior construction screws. The 1500 lb car has been sitting on them for years. I feel completely safe underneath it.

When it comes to safety if it wasn't mentioned and something happened it would be tragic.

Better to error on caution because these type of accidents are nasty...glad they are robust.

I'd trust those wooden stands a lot more than some of the cheep jack stands or ramps I've seen.

Depends on the joining fasteners I suppose...screws supersede nails and what we don't know has been clarified...

  27. Your flames look great! My vote is for the white pin stripe. This may inspire me to flame my car...

I used solid 2x8`s with wheel chocks front and rear in lieu of Jack stands. 20190501_162325.jpg

I think your flames look like the early traditional flames. You did a great job!

On my 41 delivery I used One-Shot "process" blue. I think that color would stand out more on black.
