Saw this on Shorpy, dated 1939. What do you suppose would have to be fixed on a flathead that's only two years old, requiring removal of the engine and oilpan?

Munro’s record-setting Indian. - 1962. When he arrived at Bonneville ready to make his runs he was told that he was not pre-entered so wouldn’t be allowed to compete. His American friends, among them Rollie Free and Marty Dickerson, both of them long-time, well-respected members of the Land Speed Record fraternity, talked officials into letting Munro make his runs. Tech officials looked the other way, ignoring many of Munro’s unorthodox means of putting his ancient Indian together. In his inaugural run at the Salt Flats, Munro set a world record of 288 km/h (178.97 mph) with his engine configured with 850cc of displacement. Munro continued to compete at Bonneville through 1967, when he 68 years old, surviving a high speed crash in 1967.

    Hello,

Ray Godman was a military veteran that got shot and it paralyzed him. But, his love of hot rods and drag racing was an inspiration to all.

“Godman’s story – paralyzed by a sniper during the Korean conflict, yet not letting that handicap sway him from his infatuation with acceleration – was both inspirational and emotional.”

My brother and I never met Ray Godman, but our paths would have crossed at the U.S. Nationals in Detroit, had we made it in September of 1960. We had planned on that event being the final goal for our 1940 Willys Coupe, 671 SBC, C/Gas build, but things happen. Back home during recovery from the burns, my brother and I were inspired by the trials and tribulations of Ray Godman.

    Jnaki

To this day, that was a low point in my brother’s life, all of the planning, hard work into the wee hours, on our Willys coupe went down the drain in August, 1960. Something as important as hot rodding and drag racing to a teenager, had put a stop to all activities in one single incident…

But, the inspiration in reading about Ray Godman in the Drag News and other articles, helped him overcome his injuries and get on with life. Despite the funny name of “Bo-Weevil,” we liked the image and results from that modified roadster.

As a result of it being so close to the end of April and the start of May, this was a “Thank You Tribute” I made for both memories.

    TENNESSEE BO WEEVIL

Vintage hunting cars, yes they did exist!
The 1st King Ranch was a heavily modified 1946 Ford that was very agricultural and looked like a home-built attempt at an SUV. However it progressed into this 1949 Buick.
