So I got a 8.5 10 bolt out of a 74 nova looking to completely rebuild it. Pulled the axles to measure them to make sure I get the correct length but I measure 29 5/8” and can only find 291/2” axles any help would be helpful. IMG_1297.JPG IMG_1296.JPG

If you measured parallel to axle you probably have a 29 1/2 inch axle.

I looked up on YouTube how to measure them but I’ve never done it before so I’m flying in the dark here. Yukon is the company video I watched to see how to measure them.

Need to measure parallel as Saltflats said. Place a straight edge on the end of the axle and measure it from the same height as the wheel flange. That will enable you to get an accurate measurement. Measuring at an angle will increase the distance.

You also want to measure from an exact spot on the tape rater than from the hook. I laid out 5 tape measure on top of my table saw with the hooks over the end of the steel top and got different measurements on three of them.

Check spline count. They could be 28 or 30. Good idea to replace the C-clips also.
