I am to the point where I need to get tires for my 53 I was wondering what size you guys are running I am looking to get radials. The car is lowered and will eventually have bags with stock from suspension and bags and a four link rear. Any help would be great.

  2. The guys who want radials with a stock looking size go with like 205/75R15s if I remember right, there are some posts on Chevytalk.org on it. I think the originals were like 6.70x15. Going much bigger up front will add to your turning effort and add to the wear and tear on the kingpins; in the back it's pretty much a matter of what you have room for.

Whats up Eddiesixem, hows the chevy coming along?

I know for sure 5.60's are too small and they look like they are swimming in the wheel wells, but theres another size in between that also looks good...I think its 6.40's??

  6. 205/75/15 front and 225-235/75/15 rear on mine

  7. I'm running 205/70/15's 75s with an overdrive and 3.08s wasn't enough revs to keep the trans happy

I have 215/75-015 Goodyear radials on my '53 and they're a little too big for my eye.
    I'm putting 205-75s on my '51.

Do a search - there is a whole thread on the HAMB about this, WITH PHOTOS

Hello , I know it's an old post & on my 54' Chev am running 205/75r15s all around .Tried Coker 215/75r15s in rear & needed to jack up on rear frame member ( by fuel tank to cram them 215s under & on . But I am also running 2nd gen camaro 10 bolt rear so ,it maybe the rear width is too wide . I have heard of guys running Nova rears ( which may be shorter length & allow the wider tire . Just a thought , why I'm selling te www. Going back to 205s.Happy Holidays my Brothers!!

Who the hell in their right mind would run tires that damned big on a 53 Chevy? That is nuts.

Sounds like someone with a Art Morrison Chassis,Scotty's rods chassis or just a drag/ pro street/Gasser car? Some of the tires they run on those chassis ( wide low profile )look huge. Each his own. Everyone trying to add there own touch to achieve there own look & style to their liking .

  18. I ran 255 60 15 on the rear of my 51, I used a GM G Body 10 bolt with 3.73 gears and 8 Inch Halibrand knock offs with 3 inches of back spacing. I did my best to emulate Pat Ganahl's green 52 from rod and custom in the late 80's early 90's He ran a similar sized wheel and tire combo loved that car.

Yeah I'm not fittin them under my 54 . I could go wider with more back space but not much ,the camaro rear I believe is too wide . 215s are a snug fit and body needs to be raised to sneak the tire in .

  20. 55-7 Chevy rear is a great fit. 235 x15 fit the 150 fine

Yeah probly should thought about that but, back when I put it in , camaro & Nova rears were recommended that I saw & thought Nova too short so I went camaro . Fits nice just can put wider than the 215 . I like the look of the 215 better than the 205s but I get a flat (especially if the air ride gets done) I'm gonna need one of those 4x4 bumper Jack's to get the body way up on the road lol .

  22. My old 54 had a 70 Nova rear the same as @Nailhead Jason and on top of the 225/235s I mentioned above I also fit Hurst Cheater Slicks on 7" station wagon wheels under there.
