Jim, it looks like you scored.
Owen and I went to Commerce and did well.
Be careful with that foot. I had been in heavy cast for six weeks until till Friday. Saturday was first day out of it and we did the swap meet. A lot of swelling today. Rocking chair time.

Thanks Cliff and Bill. The bearing is bad in the hub and I will be needing a back plate and bearing. I'll wait on the fan till I can measure. That pic of the one in the car is a 31.Lots of clearance.
Bill I heard you really scored.

  3. I was at Commerce as well, sorry I didn't run into you. Drove up in the 47 chevy. I was there around 830 and it was pretty full with vendors and people. I didn't find anything. Now I am curious what you did find.

Larry, I looked for you, we must have been looking down and not around. I got good hubs, a early flathead engine stand, A spring, and a bunch of little stuff for my new ride, 35 ford pickup. Jim it looks like you did well also. Do you still need the mercury heads?

Need an opinion. I saw on here a black painted head with the fins highlighted. It looked good to me. Now I have painted this head red to see if I like it. After the paint dries I will clean the top of the fins off.
    Painted head.jpg Whatcha think?

    Hello all,
I feel guilty for being at this for 2 years and no further along. I hope to remedy this with the eng Hopefully get the valves installed and adjusted.

    Jim,
I’m only 59 (only 59, wow that sounds bad) and it took me two years to rebuild my running car, the initial build took much longer.

Keep at it brother, your an inspiration for all the kids building cars to show them that age makes no difference.

I have spent at least 15 hrs over the past 3 weeks trying to get the valves installed in my eng. I have what I think are the correct tools ,2 each of the forked bar, and a manual valve spring compressor. To date Nothing. This is the hardest mechanical thing I have tried. Read post about how to do it to no avail.
Will try on the next hardest thing ,building the body. Going to get frame outside and leveled up then the sub rails bolted down with the wooden blocks.

Haven't gone south, just doing other stuff needing attention.
Worked on the 31 roadster cleaned shop, sold some o/t parts. Waiting for the valve guide tool from speedway to get back on the eng.

    Jim,
I really wish it was slower at work this year as a road trip would be great and would love to help you push through some of the work needing to be done.

How’s the transmission coming along? Any updated pics of the car?

Nothing to report. A friend, welder is helping me re position the mounts in my 31 roadster. Just puttering along. Really too hot to be outside. Shop temp the other day was 98 and outside 107.
Have the frame outside waiting to get it up instead of sitting on the floor.
I think once I get the speedway bar like you offered me I will be on the way with the valves. Should be here Mon or Tues.
Thanks for the thought of the road trip.

What a surprise the Speedway tool works after a fashion with a flat file. Have 3 valves installed .Just too hot for a old man. 107 outside and 96 in the shop. Maybe late tonight when wife is sleeping. Finding all the keepers might be a problem.:)

    Jim,
Glad it’s working for you. If you find your short on keepers I have a decent collection of stock ones and can send you what you need to finish up.

Wifes kids are coming over today so that's shot. Maybe this evening I can get a few more in.
Cliff I may have to take you up on that. When the tool slips off the valve shoots out of the pocket like a rocket. I'll get the big magnet before I give in.

    Thanks,

    jim

This is what all of my whining has been about. I have 14 valves installed .The speedway tool is the best for me.
The valves will launch like a rocket if it slips off. That's why only 14 valves installed. valves 1.jpg valves 2.jpg Missing 1 keeper and 4 retainers.
My shop has never been this clean .One was found 10 ft from the launch point. I have spent over 3 hours looking and cleaning to no avail.

I pulled the pan ,blew air into the cavities, nothing came out. Pretty sure they are floating around in different hiding places.
