1/4" rod bent into an L and tapered on one end

hardware store springs held in position with small roll pins cross drilled thru the 1/4" rods

had to remove a couple of sections of original hood hinge to make room for the springs

brackets attached to beltline at firewall and grill shell

the ends of the rod fold up out of site then pull down to actuate when needed

all hand made, trial and error, but pretty easy actually.....hope this helps you guys....Ron

    OH MY GOD THANK YOU.

That is elegantly simple and clean. I am going to try that on mine.

I bent some brass rod to make L shaped hooks. They go in the loops for the rods. Some fishing line for tension and done. The lines go across to the opposide side panels. It has worked fine for 30 years. No mods and really no fabrication. The brass and fishing line don't rust.

I really like that better than strapping a hood down.

That is the balls! I have a great louvered hood but hadn't figured out yet how to fasten it in place so it looked good. This will do the trick. Thank you!

I was asked to post pictures of my hook and fishing line deal. The hood always stays snug and secure. P1040124.JPG P1040125.JPG P1040126.JPG P1040127.JPG

Andy, is the second outlet for your radiator plugged, it's hard to tell from the pictures. I have a walker radiator for a flatty that I'd like to run with my SBF is the reason I'm asking.

Yes, It is just capped. It is an original radiator. I could have had it taken off but I try to destroy as little as possible.
The traditional way of capping is to use a short piece of hose and a cupped freeze plug.

I formed (2), "Z's" from 3/16 X 3/4 flat bar that I welded to the under side of the hood closest to firewall. I measured carefully the lip on the upper cowl and these then I, "hook/slide" under the cowl holding it in place at that end
My hood is one piece with a 1/4 rod formed & matching the coverture of the hood and welded at the outer edges. This is mounted at the front end of the hood. also on the back side. I then mounted in center of the rod, a piece of flat bar that I added a short threaded stud mounted vertically facing downward at the middle, pointing to the engine. I "Z" formed" a piece of 3/16 X 1-1/2 aluminum flat bar, drilled a 1/4 hole in the end that is nearest the hood, and use a wingnut to hold it in place at that point. It attaches at the front, lower portion of the Z to the radiator upper tank. I can do pictures if wanted, it works out great. Just do not drop the wing nut, its damned hard to find, I put a white terrycloth polishing rag on the engine where it can be seen. Sounds complicated, but it is pretty simple
