The Stewart Warner panels that I have like that are chrome plated brass. If this were stainless, there shouldn't be any copper showing through the wear spots. Looks like the chrome plating was "turned"??

Well I’m going to get the black painted Pierce-Arrow dash surround rechromed and the Model A dash will be painted gloss black, so I’ll see how this worn out looking insert looks against the new background.

Could be-never thought of that. Does stainless steel eventually tarnish this color with enough oils and grime?

That is incredible. I would NEVER consider replacing it with a new panel.

Some day you're going to be at a big show with dozens of perfect 1-800 deuces, and those guys are going to be drooling over those authentic original parts in your real hot rod. Polish all that shit up and run it!

I am not a gun collector, BUT my favorite gun that I have is a basic 870 Wingmaster by Remington. My dad bought it new and carried it for may years pheasant hunting, he handed it down to me when he bought a new 1100. He and are the only two people to carry that shotgun, wearing the bluing off, nicking the butt stock climbing over barbed wire fences... that gun is priceless to me.

Yeah that's the ticket...Hello SOUL...darn near as shocking a transition as the interior clean-up...I'd be pretty darn proud of that...you should clean those gages next and sit them in.

Shine those gage bezels...;)...the dash plate looks brand new...you know that dirt on the dash dates back to 1952 but you reached back to the original Hotrod.

That dash is solid brass. It was engine turned..THEN chrome was flashed over the engine turn. No copper, No nickel. Just a 2 minute flash of chrome. About 0.000005.

That insert is fantastic! You’ve got another part done and can check that off the list.

There is an excellent metal and glassware cleaner used in test labs called Micro 90. Its used diluted and does an excellent job cleaning up the surface. It's not an acid and wont remove oxidation but itll pull grime out of all the smal crevices.

    You're Welcome, Riff.

It could have been a bit expensive, too. If the 55 - 56 axel shafts are not shortened, they will bottom out on the pinion shafts that are inside the Posi unit.....Generally when driving around a corner, or a curve in the road. When the shafts bottom out, quite often the center section blows up.

Redo-do you think the dash insert is the original from a 33 Pierce-Arrow? Were they originally solid brass, or do you think this was this a repro done back in the ‘50s/‘60s?

Might have been from a different year, they were engine turned in '32 too. If you look close there is wear on the left hand side next to the clock, so those wear marks are traditional;) dash2.jpg

Can Y’all help me find a pair of Edelbrock valve covers, polished aluminum, with offset bot pattern (fits a 1957 283 SBC). With breathers/oil fill? They look like this but with offset holes. Thanks.

I don't think you need the Filler as it is on the Manifold...These are sold...and were straight bolt pattern. The breathing is done thru the cap on the filler tube...You also have that road draft tube in the back of the block near the distributor and not sure how your addressing that yet however we all discussed it for a bit earlier in the thread...there are options.

I think in a mixed Vintage car keeping branding as in Chevrolet non visible is appropriate...

What I'm saying is Corvette/Chevrolet Script I would stay away from...This Edelbrock, Offenhauser, non branded all fit the bill I suppose...

Why not get a set of Corvette valve covers, they are most definitely traditional!

  26. Whats wrong with the early ribbed Cal Custom Chrome valve covers that were on there.

I didn’t know they were an identifiable model. I can re-use them though they are pitted and rusted as well.

It no doubt is but it mixs up branding visibly with a hoodless car where as others look either as add on speed pieces without the Ford Chevy Mix...

On my sport coupe I have a Chevy V8 with Either Knock off Cal Custom or Vintage original but there is no brand distinction...Most know its a Chevy But I like the No Name approach in a Ford.

Yes they are Awesome and Traditional I get that.

Heres where I would stray a bit as Dad could have went and bought traditional upgrades to the covers and the Rusted Steelies hang in the garage as reminders. But of course thats me...;)

I’m not stuck on having a logo but I like the polished aluminum and deep ribbed look.
