Now maybe we can get back on track.

It seems there are two threads going here. The old school, inventive way of getting things done and the half assed crap that is out there. Some seem to have a problem distinguishing between the two.

The o.p. had a good idea and I always find it interesting in how things were done "back in the day". Thanks for the posts that are on topic.

No pics but an older friend often reminisced about his Oldsmobile powered early 50’s ford pickup.

It had exhaust cutouts under the running board made from fuel filler necks and fuel caps.
At idle it sounded like a typewriter, but when you uncapped those pipes she really screamed and surprised quite a few unsuspecting challengers, or so the story goes.

AldeanFan. My brother-in-law had "gas caps" welded to the exhaust pipes on his new "59" Chevy. He went to the junk yard and looked for the biggest truck gas filler necks he could find. High tech back in the day.

The frame step and wishbone are a little... rough, but the engine looks top-notch. I believe that center carb mount was added on.

I mean-hell, this was a choke linkage on a '34 1-1/2 ton I bought. The metal- shielded cable that went to the head-bolt heater wore the welds smooth, so it was in service a long time... image.jpg

Found a neat way to raise a coil spring front end. On my new 51 Hudson.

  14. Did they use resistor plugs on the Hudson coil springs?

  15. Always have to carry a couple of spares.

Hahaha, someone didn´t have the time to go to the parts store to get some spreader nuts... everyone knows that´s the correct way to do that. I love finding stuff like that on old cars... When I cut out the rocker on my girlfriends 52 burban I found a tooth brush, some Pesos in coins, a broken crack pipe, a " holy Mary" picture and a bag with at least 100 condoms in it... and yes, the bodywork was iffy too.... I´ll get you some pics later...

Just ran across this. Would love to know what kind of body it had (if it was still a Model A or swapped to something else or was just a digger).

  21. It’s from a f100 FB page
Guy is bragging on the craftsmanship of these dropped beams.
    These look scary

Looks like an old 40s to 50s circle track car... heavy springs, big shocks added, limiting block on the rear, etc.

That looks like a very well done “Lincoln Locker”! We did this all the time on our low budget circle track cars. More often than not, the rear end would out last the car. Wouldn’t recommend it for any street car, but it worked for us on the track.

You could add these pics to the thread about what you have done to make your car theft proof...cuz I wouldn't touch that one.

  25. The shop that builds them was bragging on these. The trucks they build look cool. But this is super scary.

  27. Yes. This shop specializes in this
A quote from the shop was that they only build these for trucks when they can install them “Incase a beam breaks in half”

    I'd use that term loosely!
