You have me beat... I have no tractor parts on my current build. I have parts from almost everything else, but no tractor parts.

Very nicely executed with a great vision for detail. :thumbsupsmilie

 

How have I missed this thread? Awesome stuff.
I really want to know how it handles once you get it on the road.

 

The jury is still out on the top of the cowl. It may go away or not but i want to see it with the tonue(sp?) Cover. I need a way to fill the brake fluid remote reservoir and so im planning on adapting the 8N rad cap pictured into a cover over the reservoir cap.


Might be cool might be cheesy we will see.

 

I'm sure it won't have the Cadillac ride as the unsprung weight ratio is going to be pretty ugly, but i think it will still be fun.

 

It really starts to work after you dropped in the formed radius pieces at the back edge. The "nose" portion of the detail might end up feeling a bit heavy... it would be easy to drop it down a step. Well, sort of easy

Both details add a lot of dimension. It's like what a designer might have done before the bean counters got ahold of it.

 

In all honesty, how much lighter would you expect this vehicle to be when compared to a regular chassis built car???
I guess this is a hypothetical question and you have got me curious and wondering if all the effort is actually gaining much advantage weight wise.

The family is out of town for a few days so onto the no-frame to keep out of the bars...

Cut a new door blank for the drivers door and shaped it up. Also had to re machine my lower bead dies to be able to put them on my bead roller backwards.

 

Looks good. I love that Ford script detail. What is the slot for in the lower front corner? Attachment point?

The brackets for the side exhaust pass threw there.

 

Worked on the dash a bit.

 

Nice job flowing the dash into the cowl (which I still really like with the added detail).

Thanks guys, i appreciate the kind words, really been letting myself do whatever comes to mind on this one. It's really being built out of raw material and cast off parts so there is no need for guard rails like if you had a valuble car to start with. Just trying a few things and if I don't like it just round file and start over...Case in point.......
The flaccid cock of an intake manifold that I put together, I haven't liked it since the day i put it on.

A friend of mine that owns the local European repair shop in town gave me a pair of SU's off of an early 70's MG.

So i cut some flanges on the Plasmacam. I left the flanges tied together to get the correct spacing then i will cut them apart after it's all welded up.




Still some fine tuning to go but I suddenly have new motivation.... Bonneville! I haven't been to speedweek since 2010 and this would make the perfect salt taxi, SEE YOU THERE!

 

Cool poster. I had one just like it, or very nearly as I recall. A buddy of mine grew up in the Bay Area and pulled one off a light pole when he was in high school or jr. high. Had it in his bedroom for a few years and kept it with his stuff til he was in his 50's. He gave it to me and it hung in my shop for several years until I gave it to a drag racing buddy of mine for his shop wall.

Leonard, great work as I have said before and being such an iconic project, I was just wondering if you might care to share some of the highs and particularly the lows that you have had to endure during this build.
Maybe what you in hindsight you would have approached differently or changed???

 

This has been a fun build in the sense that it is my transition car for the last 10 yrs or so the builds have been on rails because that was what was paying the bills. Cars had to be done quickly and I couldn't afford to explore every crazy idea I wanted to. This car sits in the middle of the shop and I only work on it when I want to, and I am under no pressure to get it done(although it's starting to happen faster because it's fun again) when I'm plotting my next move I keep walking by it while working until I get that bingo idea and luckly I get to stop working when I want to go play with my hot rod. No lows come to mind, I'm just not taking this car that seriously, it's really helped me remember why I got into building in the first place.

 

The intake i got the carbs off of had a crossover tube, I figured it couldn't hurt.

Here it is after cutting away the material that was holding the flanges together.


I had way too much coffee to be tig welding tubing in tight places, definatly won't be posting it in the incredible welds thread but it will work. Also notice the bits of round stock tacked on to make up the thickness difference between the intake and exaust. I wanted a quick fix as I decided i would rebuild the exaust manifold out of tubing later to shed a bunch of pounds.


Money shot, I bought some cheap air filters to get by but plan on dragging out my sand casting foundry later to do something cool.

Also picked up a new coil from ePay, need to get some new plug wires soon.

So I found some reference to this water pump adapter and using a 32 to 36 V8 water pump, this might help with some of my Plumbing issues. I haven't been able to find a picture of one installed, anybody have a shot they can share?

 

Ever tried polishing pot metal?

 

Little tear down to switch out the steering gear, strange little car for sure.

 

Strange, I don’t think so. Unorthodox maybe, but not strange.
