Technical Valve cover color- 1957 Merc 312

Anyone know what color the valve covers should be for a '57 Mercury 312 engine and could you describe the color ...thanks, Topless in New Mexico.

 

I've got a set of 1957 Mercury valve covers at home. I'll look when I get there tonight, but I think they're a shade of red.

My mind is like rusty steel trap. I was remembering my '60 Ford 292 valve covers, sorry. The 312 Mercury covers are fairly surface rusted, but the remaining paint is black. If I'm wrong about what came from the factory I'm sure someone will point out my error.

If you google 1957 mercury sales brochure the brochures show light green as the valve cover color.
