The second half of the Pics didn’t work the first time for me, if they show up sorry for the double post.

I had a chrome Vega box I was planning of using, but it’s looking like I’m not going to have room to fit that in there with the flatty. I’m thinking I’m going to have to do cowl steering or use a Corvair steering box to keep it outside the frame. Anyone with any better ideas for the steering box?

I’m pulling the front brakes off my 51 soon to get my front end setup and under the frame soon. Going to get it sitting on the ground and height set before I fab up and weld in the engine/ trans mounts and finish the back half of the frame. You can see the ladder bars I have in the one side picture. Kinda keep the hole theme going to the rear.

I need more picture of all the sweet parts I have sitting around waiting to be installed. I have a polished winters rear, and 16” 36 ford wires. They are already painted and have tires mounted up. I’ll upload some more garage porn tomorrow.

Very nice job!! Is that how you found it at a swap meet in the first couple of pics? Also, did you make the frame and ladder bars or are they aftermarket?
    I'm definitely a fan!!

Yea the first few pics was when I got it at Carlisle PA swap meet. I was originally planning to use that frame with a model a 4 banger, but those plans changed quick when I found that 8BA. We hauled it back to our spot on the golf cart like that , the frame rails were bought from West Texas speed off eBay, and a weld together kit. They were about $350, and not too bad to weld up. The rear bars are from Speedway. They match the front rails really well.

Found a few more pics, the wheels after paint and the motor fresh from the machine shop.

Got some more pics of parts tonight, and held my Vega box up, it’s defiantly not going to work. I’m looking for info on building my own cowl steering setup, if anyone knows of a good how-to please point me in the right direction.

  12. From Post #10 above, what are those larger size tires?? Front tires look like classic "pie crust" from Firestone.
    But what are those others?
    Please advise. Thanks......

It has been a while, but I have some updates. I got the rear of the frame built and almost finished. Next step I’m going to be mounting the motor and trans up and then fitting all four of my radius arms.

I’m going to be cutting the ends of the rear crossmember off, they are in the way of my rear arms.

Stay away from cowl steering. Look up Pete Eastwoods post on cowl steering.

I used a mid-sixties Dodge pickup steering box. These have the drag link running forward like the Ford F-1 units but they have the advantage of having a splined end for the steering column hookup. These are the same up to 1971. The only down side I see is that the pitman arm takes a big tie rod end but the one I'm using has 11/16" fine thread like everything else anyhow. Fits good, looks good.
