Finally got off my a** and removed the original 56 rear end. I've had the 8.8 kinda ready and committed. Looks like the E-brake will be less of a problem by using the original actuator arm on the newer brake shoes... We shall see. Completed the new lines on the 8.8 too. image.jpeg

Cleared a spot to put up a glorified tent... The 15x8 and 10x12 town is going to begin...

I will have to name my shacks to remember what the hell I will be storing in them.... As California Code allows 120 Square foot and under structures without a permit...

  8. Installed my new DeWitts "direct fit" aluminum radiator in the '58.
Yesterday I polished the tanks on it.
Replaced all the old attaching bolts with polished stainless.

  11. Well , I started my new job today. I am not wrenching on big rigs or automobiles for the first time in my life. I am learning to do invoicing and billing of towing, repairs and body work on medium and heavy duty trucks at a busy truck and fleet repair center. I hope to do very well in this position, today was the first time in 40 some years I did not come home from work hurting and covered in grease and dirt LOL.

IMG_4351.JPG My welder pal come over and finished securing the engine crossmember.
I cleaned things up some and painted the firewall and the revamped chassis crossmember.
Last thing I welded back on was a piece of the floor that I inadvertently removed when I was trying to get the engine located in the car the very first time...oops!!:D:D

Woke up with a knock on my front door. It was my old Jr. High/High School Shop teacher. Hadn't talked to him since 1976 or so. I live on the opposite side of the state from where I grew up. He follows my '32 build on FB and wanted to see it in person. Instead of walking him out to my shop, I put him in my pickup and drove 8 miles to a friend's shop. There we are restoring a super modified/sprint car that Jim drove in 1966. didn't tell him what we were going to see. When we turned the corner in the shop he saw the frame and said "Trostle #2, oh my God!". We spent the next 2 hours talking, comparing notes and getting his memories of the car. We had him re-create his pose from 1966. This car was in Hot Rod Magazine in 1966 and that's the restoration plan. He was so excited, felt great to bring good memories back to the man that taught me to weld, drafting, machine work, electricity/electronics and auto repair/engine work. He just kept saying, "Man, I never thought I would see this car again. These were great times". Fantastic way to start the day.

After Jim headed on up the road I painted a few more small parts for the '32, made seals for my heater lines where they pass thru the firewall and moved my '26 "T" project into the main room and the '32 into my brighter work room.

Pics below of Jim getting to see his old friend. The steering wheel he is holding onto is the same one he won with in 1966.

Annual scrub down on the daily driver. I used Bar Keepers Friend Soft cleaner this go round. Scrubbed off the winter nastiness.

Changed the oil and cleaned 2000 miles of road grime from the Y Brock Coupe, accumulated on the trip to Austin & back for the LSRU.

  21. Put on my '58 Truck tags that I picked up from the Lonestar Roundup. Also installed a passenger side sun visor.
Who can come back from that meet and NOT be energized?! :D

  23. Only thing car related was a stop at my local FLAPS to pick up a few parts, but on the way home I picked up my new hearing aids. (I've needed them for 30 years) "Can you hear me now," has a whole new meaning!
It'll be interesting to hear if the pipes on my cars still sound good to me.

  24. Didn't work on projects today but yesterday I took my pushrod measurements DSCF4925.JPG DSCF4923.JPG to Smith Brothers and ordered a set.

I thought I posted this update yesterday with the engine finally in the car to stay... I hope!
Great feeling to get that 425 in the 32 and still keep the stock wishbone... I thought it could be done but wasn't sure!
Very satisfying to be adding to the history of a car that has been hot rodded since May 5, 1942.

No early Ford transmission has likely been in this particular car for almost 60 years.
I used the switch pitch turbo 400 automatic that came with the engine.
That switch pitch transmission changes normal stall speed around 1,900 rpm up to 2,800 rpm!!
    It hits hard!
    Can't wait to drive it!
Hope you are doing well in Kingman and thanks again for your help back in 2016 with getting rooms for our gang when we drove to the LARS. Dinner in Kingman with your crowd and their beautiful cars and trucks was one of the highlights of the whole trip.;):)
