From reports on this crash Bettenhausen did three flips into the infield on the first day of Time Trials at Indianapolis in 1959. Amazingly, he was basically unhurt. This is the car that was sold to Harry Turner in its wrecked state and he somehow got it back on the track the next weekend although qualifying ended before it could find enough speed.

 

TB was pretty lucky that day here you can see that the roll bar packed full of dirt where it dug into the infield.

 

i caught a show on "motor trend" about phil spector buying one of these to drive on the street. he just got crazier and crazier!

 

"to know him is to love him" is the inscription on spector's father's gravestone...

 

A bunch of us kids would terrorize this one step van type of ice cream truck that went through our neighborhood during those warm summer evenings. Apparently he had either short changed one kid or gave him a messed up ice cream bar, maybe both.
Well we'd hide in some bushes and wait for they guy to slow down and then we'd throw dirt clods at the truck. I got lucky and got one in through an open side window and nailed the freezer. He still kept coming after all we'd do to him.

Granted that he was nuttier than a fruit cake... but he married Ronnie of the Ronettes so he was a lucky SOB.
