Wow ! First time I have seen your post in this thread even though you posted it so long ago. I bet you have been bugged to death from guys wanting you to make a blower manifold for them. VERY COOL ! If I have my way I will have my 348 tri carb in my 40 Ford Standard coupe this coming spring.

I don’t own any W stuff, but always had a soft spot for them. As a kid on the ranch I had few neighbors, but did have one. Richard was my closest neighbor both in distance and friendship. When I was 10, him 15, he flung a craving of Cushman scooters on me so much I bought one. We had fun riding them into town a few miles away. Likewise he started me down the hot rod road. We put baby moons on his moms 56 Ford, stuff like that.
Then in 1964-5 he bought a 58 Chevy complete with a 348 four barrel. Well..... we were in hog heaven having an engine that big...biggest engine around! If we raced once, we raced a thousand times, against our stop watch on old highway 69 and 64. Then!!! We put 3 deuces on it! We thought it was faster, our watch said so! In our area there just wasn’t many people to race, but we had fun. I buried my lifelong friend a few years ago, but I always smile when I see a 348/409.. especially with three dueces.

  19. i remember at a swap a few years ago, i overheard a guy telling a friend of mine that was selling a w motor. He said look for the "x" on the front of the block. Then its a true 409!! I couldnt get home fast enough to check my motor. it has the " x" boy, was i happy. Til i did the research, turns out the x was used on ALL w motors after 1962, mnie turned out to be a '65 348
