Hot Rods What color are your wheels?

I prefer wash & wear, for a variety of reasons. The biggest is that I hate polishing. I see all these guys polishing their pride & joy at car shows and I think, what a poor way to spend your day. I've been a big fan of painting steel wheels the same color as the body. However I'm rethinking this for my current '40 Ford. I'd like some refreshing ideas, hoping you have some. I recall one of our fellow rodders driving a model T, black as it should be according to Henry but lime green wheels & drive train. A picture of my former pickups, sold it several years ago. Just a picture to get us started.... Yes, I'd like to see pictures of yours or of some you've seen.

 

Which ones?

 

My wheels are black. I don't polish anything.



When I pulled into the show in the pic above, the driver of the sedan just out of view on the left said "My wife said I'd have saved $80,000 if I'd have just built a car like yours". He then began to wipe down and polish his car.

on my last 2 F1's i did a cream white wheels. For my current 28' roadster project i am planning on maroon colored 40' ford steel wheels (the car is semigloss black) my first thought was gloss black but i thought it just may be too much black for my taste.

Most of them are kinda a funky shade of gray...

I think on a black car you can go a lot of different ways. My concern I that the wheels could take over the theme and become the only feature people see.

I thought hot rod wheels only came in three colours

Chrome steel (per Moriarity)
Halibrand (I think thats a colour by now)
Polished Aluminium (Centerline Auto Drag)

and everything else is a fad

But hey, I could be wrong, and I could be taking the piss out of folk who arent sure if all wheels come in black or red only and go onto black cars

 

You won't find them at Walmart!

Tacoma caream. These wheels were on a friends '40 coupe that I painted in 1979. I just bought them from him last spring for my sedan.

 

Is chrome a color?
