hot damn, you had me at 33 Chevy, My avatar was my first hot rod 33 chevy master tu-door. Sounds like a cool build, those big flatties are uber cool. I just looked at the pix and videos from the TROG, tore me up, I lived in Santa Barbara for 23 years, beautiful city. Good luck with the build, what is that bad ass truck sittin there? I have a 66 lb fleetside I love.

ive always had a soft spot for early 30s sedans, I've always been a chevy/ gm person, and one with a flathead Cadillac will be damn cool!

I only went to TROG once, and it was as a spectator a few yrs ago, and it was a great time, but as has been said, I would build it for driving and having some fun in, as they likely wont accept it as an entry and trying to make it one, probably wont make it very driveable on the street with kids, atleast not a very enjoyable. "Sorry, no pick up trucks or sedans unless they are heavily modified competition style race vehicles, ie; (Setback engines, heavy chops, extreme channel, major speed equipment)."

Won’t have the car till early April, it’s sitting on my in-laws property for now, will have more details once it’s in the garage but I’m sure it needs a lot of love

Got the 346 about all stripped down. A handful of other parts too, dago axle w/ wishbone, Edmunds heads and intake, 1960 Olds rear.

If your goal is to race at TROG, then I would get some sort of pre-approval for your build before you get into this too far. They are pretty selective and generally don't allow sedans, let alone Chevys. It would be pretty shitty to sink god knows how many dollars and hours into a project just for the TROG organizers to say, "hey cool project. Go park it over there while the rest of us race.".

If it doesn’t work out for TROG it’s okay, I know a 4 door Chevy is already a stretch to begin with. Their requirements are right in line with my style so it’s a win either way.

The car will be here in my garage in a few days and will have some more pics!

They're a few years older than your Chevy, but here's a couple of photos, for inspiration. Found them on one of the TROG threads. Not sure of the year of the #8 roadster, but the grill shell looks like a 1926 Chevy? Or a 1927 Chevy?

By the way.....What trans are you planning to use? Cad / LaSalle?

Great choice for a trans. By the way, I'm slowly building a 34 Master coupe with a Caddy V8. However, it's a 1950's OHV engine.

Luv the project, especially with the Caddy flatty! But what I wanna know is.....where is this honey hole pictured behind the '33?!

  18. Interesting build. My old 47 caddy with a hydro had all the torque I could want. Only 150 HP but a ton'o torque. That flathead was almost silent and smooth as silk....loved the porcelinized exhaust manifolds up top. 47cadddyanddarlene.jpg

what about a pair of coupe 1/4s and doing a 5 W coupe conversion like the '33-4 Ford guys do? Then chop it, channel it, Ford axles and springs etc. ...you'd probably be a shoe in for the rog

Plan for now is the chop and channel, 5 window conversion is a possibility though down the road. Got the dago axle for the front and the springs.

  24. Your sedan would have made a great parts car for my 33,3 window! But alas, it found a new owner about 18 years ago. scan0032.jpg

Got the wheels off and got the rear fenders off, they sure were happy on there and didn’t want to be removed [IMG]

Anyone know how the decode on the cowl tag goes? Trim looks like 25 and paint looks like 130. [IMG]

    Eg VIN: 2CA0310842

    COWL TAG:
    Job No. - 33-559. 33 - 1933 (YOM), 559 - 4 door sedan
Body No. - 011036. Self explanatory sequential number
Trim No. - 25. Brown mohair
Paint No. - 170. Code doesn't appear on 1933 Chevrolet colour chart however it does in 1934 colour chart, late 1933 production? It's a combination colour with Malay Brown Light body and sealing wax red wire wheels.

The serial data plate is attached to the passenger side floor on closed cars and on the seat riser base on open cars.

    9. Norwood, Ohio
    12. Buffalo, New York

    21. Janesville, Wisconsin

    CA - YEAR SERIES MODEL
    • 1925 V Superior
    • 1926 K Superior
    • 1927 AA Capitol
    • 1928 AB National
    • 1929 AC International
    • 1930 AD Universal

03 - Indicates the build month, March 1933

10842 - Sequential serial number for when the car came down the production line at Tarrytown, New York.
    • The engine serial is stamped on a boss just behind the fuel pump on passenger side of engine
    • The frame serial if stamped should be located on the outside face of LH frame rail under the cowl behind front wheel. Chances are it's hand stamped, very feint and hard to see without cleaning the surface to reveal it.
    upload_2019-4-11_16-8-14.png

    33 Standards have a 107" WB, Masters have a 110" WB.

Thank you for all that info! It looks like the paint code is 130, looking around seems like that would be the Arcadian Green, which makes sense, the firewall is very clearly green [IMG]

Not sure where exactly on the passenger floor the data tag would be but it’s probably rotted away [IMG]
