I'm pretty sure Jim Baker still owns it. Here's a photo I took at the KKOA Sherman/Denison Show in 2015.
Yeah, I too miss seeing that car at the Roundup, especially in the early years. I've got some great shots of it at Jo's back when that the was the spot for the best cars to park.
Kept the Mercury surround , Pretty sure its from '47 Cadillac ( I would like to see '50 Merc parking lights below headlights..) here is a 1947 Cadillac Series 62
Jim Baker is one of my best friends..I think hed rather cut oFf his balls than to rid himself of the Merc I was living in Sherman,Texas when Jim had Guymon built it.Therefore I was elected to do the upholstering..it still looks good today as it did 30 years ago
Jim and his Merc are alive and well! Had the privilege of meeting Jim at last years StrayKat 500 in beautiful downtown Dewey, Ok. He jokingly told me that my car would look a lot better if I dropped the back and put skirts on it. He wasn't willing to sell me his skirts though!! I got the whole history on the car and the build and I have to agree with wbrw32, it looks like a fresh build. The car has been well cared for. Jim and his buddy Auggie are a real pair and I hope to see them again in May.
A couple shots of it in Salina less skirts. If you are a die hard custom fan, you should know of Dave. This Merc was part of either the Custom Gathering or the Custom Merc display at the Grand National Roadster show. Jim was happy to be a part of the display when I talked to him after he had attended.
Is David Guymon still active? I use to read and hear about him quite a bit 25 years ago but not anymore. Of course there use to be magazines that use to write about guys like him and their latest builds. I miss those magazines . Larry
That car kicks ass. Love it. Glad to hear Jim has taken great care of it all the while racking up the miles on it. Thanks for the Flashback Ryan. It did me good after a long ass day at the "foundry"...
I love the Caddy grille as a nice departure from the seemingly 'standard' '46 Olds grille used on most '46 to '48 Fords & Mercs
Ryan, Jim is an old retired Delta Airline Capt that still enjoys a good Custom,,lives in Sherman,Texas on Vancouver ,If he isn't in phone book I'll be happy to introduce you two..Guymon lives nearby in CartwrightOkla
Pushes all the right buttons with me...glad it's still around intact as per original configuration right down to the tires...I really appreciate that. Just a great example of good Karma between Owner and builder=Masterpiece. Thanks for showcasing this Custom @Ryan
the Merc is iconic and one of my all time faves. Cool to see the images sans skirts and the small caps and trim rings. A friend has a accumulation of old cars which includes a four door 47 Merc and a coupe. A 47 rag top is also in the collection in a 50's style mode with a cool plaid interior, white top, hot flatty and in mint condition. They are still out there!
