That Buick you mentioned might have been the red and white 1957 raced by Bill Trevor. He was in charge of the GM Tech Center in Burbank, and worked closely with Reynolds Buick and "Pop" Kennedy...

    Hello G,
Here is that Buick that was one of the top runners at Lions. The name Kennedy was thrown around...We never got to know who owned that Buick. He did have red and white wheels/tires, though. If our dad's blue Buick ran as well as that one at Lions, we would have two hot stock cars in the Westside of Long Beach.

By the way, my brother did come through in the end to beat that charging Buick. Whew! The one thing we discussed was that he needed to get his starts in order. He did get better. I never raced that big Buick, but I did take my dad's Buick on the Terminal Island Freeway for a full on drag race. It was impressive, but not as much as in the 1958 Impala.

That would be Curt (Henderson) played by Richard Dreyfuss.
Seems like a reasonable guy to me!

    Cut/paste from here:
    https://www.charactour.com/hub/characters/view/Curt-Henderson.American-Graffiti

Interests… women. Curt just encountered the woman of his dreams cruising down Third Street and is overcome by a desire to find her. He tells her nervously, “You are the most beautiful, exciting thing I’ve ever seen in my life and I don’t know anything about you. Listen, listen, listen, uh, um, uh could we meet someplace?”
