I had debated on dropping down to Rolla. It's only an extra 45 minutes.

  2. If'n you stay in Columbia, head down to Springfield, I'm in Conway, AR, dead central AR straight down from Springfield on Hwy 65 right down to I-40. A bit out of the way, but not too bad from here to Queen Wilamina State Park. We generally attend Austin and leave Wed, but can hang around if you head over here for a look see.

I would be rolling through Springfield on Wednesday. Still working out drive times to make a couple things work. Don’t let me hold you up. If we can get together great, otherwise see you in Austin.

If your not threw his neck of the woods very often I’d make an effort to stop and see the office on your way there or back. Don’t have any photos handy, noticed it featured in royboys new “48 cars in 48 states” book though

There are lots of places I would love to go, but this is more of a cannonball type trip. I am to the point where I am taking nautical sunrise and sunset times into effect to maximize the potential to stop and see things along the way. Right now I have 2 1/2 days planned to drive down. The return trip will be a banzai trip at max speed with minimal sight seeing unfortunately. The half day will be 235 miles in 4 hours after work Tuesday. Then 476 miles and 9 hours of driving Wednesday. and another 9 hours and 463 miles on Thursday. Its going to be a run when you start taking too many stops, but I want to see what's out there.

Bought my tickets after reading about the charity. I love the little car and would love to have it, but glad to donate for the cause. I had a sister who died from a congenital heart defect before I was born. Her memory haunted my dad until the day he died. Hope to prevent that sort of pain for the little ones and their parents.

Here is the link that goes to the fundraiser for this little adventure. I have to clean this car up for Detroit, Chicago the week after and then get ready for this little road trip. Let's help these families that have kids with congenital heart defects. If you see me in Detroit, I will likely have the father of one of the beneficiary families with me to get more details. He plans on coming as long as his sons health, and his business permits.

I would suggest coming into Taylor via hwy 95. It parallels I35 starting around Temple and goes alongside Little River dragstrip. Oldest track around and small towns along the way.
Compared to the big city of Taylor .

Less than a month until I blast off on this little adventure. I sure hope the weather cooperates. One last epic journey before this hot rod is won by someone on May 4th. 15FB5AA9-6A4E-4695-9B5A-911195234EA7.jpeg 9E36B933-F68F-442A-9532-ADA2FD2BF244.png 3D30A126-04C1-49BB-B65B-699BB8DED363.jpeg

So cool. I would love that little roadster in my garage. I hope whoever wins it shows us pictures of their continued enjoyment.

I will have to see what time I roll through Ozark. Looks like it may be a doable stop for lunch.

  16. Just a note on your route. I took US69 from I44 south to TX. last year to Roundup. I found it to be very rough from big truck use. Also, the big trucks wanted to go faster than my nerves would allow on the beat up road.
I went home a longer way, which was probably just as fast and safer.

Just checked the route for Talilhina to Austin and it looks like I don't run on 69. Looks like US271, US70, US79, OK2, and TX19 are the main roads I will be on.

I have my St Christopher pin to watch over my safe travels. I also decided to bring the spirit of everyone’s friend Bob K along for finding the places to stop along the way. While I may never be able to live up to his journeys, he inspired me to embark on my own. Sure miss seeing that guy BEC55FD0-3233-4AC6-BCD2-A27D98C5F174.jpeg F060E7E5-F013-427F-88B7-92786830126B.jpeg

I think I have everything. Camping gear, rain gear, winter and summer clothes, promotional stuff for the charity and raffle, 4 tubes, extra fuel pump, wiring stuff, and lord knows what else. Heading out after work tomorrow. E32B5B90-3F56-40B0-BC0C-D1A8821B449D.jpeg 74C8514A-178F-4AA0-A071-BE4652782577.jpeg

When I get home I have 16 days before this has to be driveable. I must be insane. 243518E7-7315-41BF-966E-55CE374FE37C.jpeg EBD17C5E-AA82-4E5F-BFAF-782491F8326E.jpeg

Off work earlier than I expected. Might as well get a haircut before I head out. Jim has been the only barber in this shop since 1968. 3C4ACE39-B772-4EF1-8DEA-295DD88E92A0.jpeg

Some wind time and a neat old shop where I stopped for gas. And yes, those are raindrops on the windshield 0C022838-3E41-4836-9E25-D165148B07C4.jpeg 555C694D-12F3-4B5D-BAED-1DD6E6870D43.jpeg

My traveling partner Bob said I needed to get off the beaten path for awhile. Athens ought to do. He says holy cow that cannonball left a mark 91299E69-7EE7-4698-B053-C62BCE0E31E9.jpeg 020E8E92-B62F-4446-853C-0577D3FEC98C.jpeg 3CA37C69-9C0A-4C56-8A39-9133FD317A2E.jpeg DD7D801E-1D7E-4587-873C-55341932B05C.jpeg 0C342ACF-1521-4CC2-8D74-D1ACD18D2086.jpeg

The shadow knows. Knew I was hungry. Landed me at Jonesys I downtown Paris. Missouri that is. Kind of funny that I would park in front of a junk store. GPS guided me through the gravel roads of Missouri to Mr and Mrs Atch’s place for a very hospitable overnight stay Thanks for letting me crash here overnight up early tomorrow to travel a bit of the mother road before heading south some more 6CDB3177-D73A-48D5-95FE-1A7BA5BB3415.jpeg 6C19DAF4-5481-4AEF-8E74-EEE261DE9F56.jpeg 941D5D1C-78DB-48C1-A1FF-28121002F813.jpeg B4EAC138-49C8-4AF0-A2A3-1C379D3F0A8B.jpeg 061E8192-CDCF-4920-981D-EAFBF2568E38.jpeg

Doug is safely on the road. It's 53 degrees here right now so he's bundled up well. Wish him safe travels.
