My '56 left front spindle nut got stripped, badly.
(Yes, we thought it was right hand thread). The spindle is OK.
I have been looking for a week now and have had no luck finding one.
    3/4" 20 UNEF Left hand thread !!
Anyone have one laying around you want to part with?
If not I will have to get one made which is going to be expensive , for a nut.
    Thanks
    John..

  2. have you looked in the Dorman catalog?

This may be odd but I googled 3/4-20 castle nut and found one for a snapper ride-on mower. Don't know if it is left hand thread, but here is the info:

12990046 NUT, CASTLE, 3/4-20 (FOR WVK HYD MOTOR) 2.17 each

    Might also try:

Isn't that where Wyle E Coyote shopped for everything?

I have plenty of these cars in the yard that still have the nuts on the spindle if you still need one.

Ironically I found out today I need the same nut and through the leads I read here I found a place through Amazon after calling Northern Auto Parts to verify the part number to search for. I did a search on their part number which is the same as Dorman they told me and order it through amazon.com after I called their supplier. They have 3 left now and they are not cheap. Here is the link:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000DCNTGW or search Dorman 615-070 to see if you can find it cheaper. I need that nut fast so I went with first available.

John-I am new to the forum...am restoring a '54 98...the yahoo that owned it some time ago shoved a RH on the LH spindle...those LH 3/4 20 castle nuts are like hen's teeth! If you have one, I'd gladly buy it from you and pay shipping...thanks, Norm

I needed one of these (3/4 inch, 20 tpi, left hand threaded castle nut) for a trailer and after many fruitless searches both to parts stores and online, found a machine shop in North Kansas City that bought a tap and made a couple of castle nuts for me. They were not cheap, but at least my trailer is usable again. If anyone needs one badly enough to have one machined as I did, get ahold of me and I'll see if this can be done for you with the tap I have.

  22. Marque clubs are really useful for these kind of things. Join the Olds Club, they have an advisor just for '54/'56 cars.
