My '56 left front spindle nut got stripped, badly. (Yes, we thought it was right hand thread). The spindle is OK. I have been looking for a week now and have had no luck finding one. 3/4" 20 UNEF Left hand thread !! Anyone have one laying around you want to part with? If not I will have to get one made which is going to be expensive , for a nut. Thanks John..
This may be odd but I googled 3/4-20 castle nut and found one for a snapper ride-on mower. Don't know if it is left hand thread, but here is the info: 12990046 NUT, CASTLE, 3/4-20 (FOR WVK HYD MOTOR) 2.17 each www.smithdistributingcompany.com Might also try: www.fastmetalproducts.com
try this dorman # View attachment dorman 615-070.pdf The L after the thread size means Left hand thread I believe. link that has it for less than $5 http://www.northernautoparts.com/ProductModelDetail.cfm?InventoryId=457283
i just had a similar problem looking for a pinion yolk nut for my open drive banjo. 117harv here on the hamb had one. sent it to me free and just told me to help another hamb'er out if ever i could. there is a real good nut and bolt place near me. Acme Nut and Bolt. i will go there tomorrow and check. if they have one i will pm you, get your address and send it your way.
You fellas are amazing! Dorman does not carry the L/H anymore. D2 Willys , I will check northernautoparts and Mr. F-6 Garagerat , I thank you for checking out ACME for me. Isn't that where Wyle E Coyote shopped for everything? John

never mind i misread the original post. Have you tried seeing if anycar has the same spindle nut thats more popular. maybe a newer chrysler?
I have plenty of these cars in the yard that still have the nuts on the spindle if you still need one. ---John
Ironically I found out today I need the same nut and through the leads I read here I found a place through Amazon after calling Northern Auto Parts to verify the part number to search for. I did a search on their part number which is the same as Dorman they told me and order it through amazon.com after I called their supplier. They have 3 left now and they are not cheap. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000DCNTGW or search Dorman 615-070 to see if you can find it cheaper. I need that nut fast so I went with first available.
John-I am new to the forum...am restoring a '54 98...the yahoo that owned it some time ago shoved a RH on the LH spindle...those LH 3/4 20 castle nuts are like hen's teeth! If you have one, I'd gladly buy it from you and pay shipping...thanks, Norm
I needed one of these (3/4 inch, 20 tpi, left hand threaded castle nut) for a trailer and after many fruitless searches both to parts stores and online, found a machine shop in North Kansas City that bought a tap and made a couple of castle nuts for me. They were not cheap, but at least my trailer is usable again. If anyone needs one badly enough to have one machined as I did, get ahold of me and I'll see if this can be done for you with the tap I have.
Marque clubs are really useful for these kind of things. Join the Olds Club, they have an advisor just for '54/'56 cars.
Check Hemings for Olds specific suppliers, and was also said on another post check out the Oldsmobile national clubs
Call CTC Auto Ranch in Denton Texas # (940) 482-3007 they have a acres and acres of old cars and that's all they specialize in. You cam Google them, they are not the cheapest but they probably have one
