Hi all , I have a rookie question now that I'm starting to assemble my 6-71 gmc blower.
I have went the cheap route with stock bearing plates front and rear, but I noticed the rear bearing is of different design. The new one is a sealed single row ball bearing, the old one is of a floating design.
My co-worker who has worked on similar blowers in other applications says this might be important to take up the heat expansion in the rotor, but then again, everybody sells these bearings for this application.

Then there's the problem of the new bearing not seating in the end plate due to the different design. Should I fab up some spacer? I guess it's all designed as a kit for when you switch to aftermarket end plates, but that's not an option for now.

  2. Save yourself some money,,,send it to a pro.....or expect bad results..its not as easy as you think..

Nope, out of the question, I can learn and do whatever and I will do it . Just need some time to find the right answers.

Call Rick Dean. He can sell you the correct bearings, seals, etc and is a GIANT wealth of information.

Please buy a decent aftermarket rear bearing plate. Rick sell his house brand or you can find a decent used one on ebay.

    Good luck, -Abone.

I heard the stock bearings need to be replaced with high speed ones, so you might need to replace em anyways...

This is a good book to have if your messing around with blowers, lots of history, and lots of info on what to look for when buying a old GMC blower. and a good section on rebuilding a GMC blower.
And that is the section that I am posting in its entirety.
    Hope this helps 20190404_190631.jpeg 20190404_190443.jpeg 20190404_190502(0).jpeg 20190404_190520.jpeg 20190404_190537.jpeg 20190404_190557.jpeg 20190404_190618.jpeg
